day night.
Mr. Kelley ha* had the dwelling
north of his double store repaired)
and neatly painted.
Mrs. J. P. Phillips has been quite
ill for several days, but is now req>orted
to be better.
Mr. H. Nachman has opened up;
his store again and Is "doing busi-;
ness at the old stand."
The telephone line has gotten as
far as Cades, where it seems to have
stopped, showing but little disposition
to move on.
It looks as 11 we imgnt iinv? ?u- j
other late spring. The 14th failed
to suggest garden planting in even i
the faintest manner.
The young folks had a mask
party at Rev. Rooke's Friday night, i
Those who attended seemed to have
?-enjoyed themselves.
The erosstie business is getting
lively. This is an effort on the part
of many, who have timber, to tide
over the hard times.
Mr. J. D.Singletary made a shipment
of lettuce Thursday. The
tieads were of goo i s.ze, wellshaped solid
and firm and no doubt a go al
price will he realized. They were

for the Scranton dif pensaiy had ar- \
rived and was partly checked off t
and put in the house. The consignment
for Lake City caine Thursday
iiut was not unloaded.
Guanos are now moving off llvelv.
The car yard is thronged everyday :
with teams of every kind coming
?nd going. One remarkable feature
about this matter that we notice
this year is that the men who are
.getting fertilisers almost without
exception belong to that class of
farmers that know how to use fertilizers
to advantage?who farm intelligently.
Last Friday morning C'apt. W. P.
"Fitch's wagon was wreck ed by the
local freight at the Main street
..Moiimn Thn oncrinn U*as shiftillff. '
It seems that the team whs going |
silong near Mr. B. W. Jones' store
when the horses showed an inclination
to go across the track. Mr.
Stuckey, who was driving, atteuipt ed
to rein them up Main street and
away from the railroad. The lines
parted and the horses dashed to the
Tight and across the tracks, Mr.
Stuckey jumping from the wagon.
The horses just cleared the rails
when the teuder of the engine,
which was going backwards, struck ,
the wagon, tearing it to pieces. The ;
horses were thrown down, but be-!
,vond a scratch or two were not in- \
jured. The wagon was totally |
When the collision took \
place the engine was moving at !
about four or five miles an hour. I
No blame can be attached to the
engineer or driver.
