i son of Mr, J. C. Bell, of Indiantown,
narrowly escaped being
killed while riding on horseback
last Thursday morning. The horse
ran away and unseated the little
t lellow, and his spur catching in
the bridle rein caused him to be
dragged about a quarter of a mile

anything we ever heard of. Some
time during the night the miscreant
entered the stable by the
back door and stabbed an innocent
and unollending muie, cutting the
jugular vein. The spirit prompting
such an act is the same that
would cause an assassin te steal '
up behind a man in the dark and
stab him in the back.
Whether it be that a spirit of
lawlessness stalks abroad at
Christmas time, or that the over
indulgence in "nose paint" makes
men reckless of both themselves
and the law, we have heard of
more misdemeanors in the last
few days than at any time during
the year. Que of the most daring
of these offenses was the breaking
of Mr. H. D. Reddick's front window
Monday night. The night
watchman was on duty and heard
the noise ot the breaking glass,
but when he reached the spot the
deed was done and the malefactor
had escaped. The plate glass
broken is about a quarter ot
an inch thick and is very expensive.
The value ot the cotton and cot
tonseed crop of the southern states
last year was $545,000,000.
