Grand Master Whitehead, who succeeds Grand Master Orlando Shepsard?one of the best grand masters vho has ever presided over the craft n South Carolina?is the first Charleston Mason elected to the grand ast since 1888, when the present nayor of Charleston, J. Adger omyrb, concluded Ills third term as grand naster. The newly elected head of he Masons is a past master of Orange Lodge, No, 14, of this city, having jerved as master of that lodge from 1S93 to 1896. He was elected junior ?rand warden of the grand lodge in 1896, and served through the various svarrant stations continuously to his present dignity. He is one of the best informed Masons of the .State, ind as Master of Orange Lodge made i high reputation as a ritualist, lecturer and presiding officer, lie is ' Ituowi^ intimately to the Masons of i Charleston and is a constant visitor 1 to the various lodges of the city. Mr. , Whitehead is the principle or tne High school of Charleston. The newly elected junior grand svarden, J. L. Mlcble, is worshipful master of St. David's Lodge. No. 72, of Darlington. He has served for several years in the grand lodge as rrand senior deacon. The officers elected were either jlevated in due regard to their several statiors or reelected to offices already tield. On motion of Senior Grand "Warden Bellinger, a grand secretary's 1 jewel will be presented to Grand Secretary Inglesby. Superintendent of Education McMaban has received the annual reports from all the counties save Cherokee, Marion, Oconee, Saluda and Newberry. If these reports are not in very shortly In proper form It is not unlikely that the attention of the legislature will be called to the matter. Several important pieces of tabular work are tied up and cannot be touched until these reports are in hand. Attorney General Bellinger, already having his annual report well in hand, is now devoting his own attention exclusively to the preparation of his interesting report on the investigation of the trusts.
