II CITY DEPIRIMHT.' la charge of . W. L. BASS, Beg.' Arthur Jonea is at home from the Welsh Neck High School. Miss McMlchael, of Columbia, is on a visit to irienas m town. i W.W. Sellers, Sr., chief constable I for the Florence division, spent last Friday in town. He came in pursuit of a jug, which to the gratification ?f the owner turned out to be all right. Otis Harrell encountered a very painful and serious accident a few days ago. He, in carelessly handling a pocket knife, ran the"i>oint of the blade into his eye. We understand that the sight has been destroyed and that there is danger ef other troubles. B. \V. Stewart sold a load of tobacco on our market a few days ago which which brought a rigm gooa price. The average price was 47J* cents p?r pound for the entire lot. The prices rangod from 45 to 65 cents per pound, and the number of J poipirt* was several hundred. We think this weuld be right hard to beat. Two of H. Nachman'* children have been sick for several days; one, the little girl, with pneumonia and ceinplications; the other, the little bey, with ills attending cutting teeth. Both of them have been * * at J. seriously hi ana ienra 01 iacn ru eovery have been entertained, but they are now better and hopes are held ?Ctheir recovery. Dr. Hinnaut s-alled in Dr. llcLeod, of Florence, vne day last week for consultation. Our tobacco men went down to Charleston one day last week and bought the entire crop of tobacco of Maj. J. 8. Horlbeck, whose farm is about four miles from Mt. Pleasant. They bought this tobacco over buyers from other markets. This market this season has sold tobacco fromBerkeley,Colleton and Charleston counties, besides from the adjoiuing counties to Williamsburg. Some days ago Joe Epstein made application that his homestead be set off to him. The appraisers selected were: by Epstein, J. H. Brilles; by the sheriff. J. J. Morris, and by the creditor, II. Nachman, W. T. Askins. The appraisers met on Monday and ascertained and appraised the personal property, which they found amounted, in all to a Htti* ie?H than the amount exempt ed, f5(X). Consequently nil of the property'waa set off as homestead. The difference between the business methods of Northern and Southern merchants found an illustration here last week. On Tuesday night a book was ordered from a Boston publishing heu*e. It was received on Saturday morning, lest tnan four day# after the ord-?r was mailed. On hut Mondny our town came very ne??r passing through the Name experience that TlinuionavlMe and .V?nyc*vllle have recently had. About 4 o'clock the Jenes ginnery wai discovered to lie en fire. In a short time donse volume* of bluck smoke were pouring from the roof of the main building. Excitement rati high and it seemed an if we were to have a regular con-, llagration, but fortunately it was discovered in time to b? extinguished before it got beyond control. The firs startol la the gin rooiw and Mr. 13xker, the ginner, with assistance soon put it out. ltwasvory fortunate that it occurred in the daytime and was discovered before it had gained - headway. The ginnery is so situated that had the tire gained headway the Star warehouse, which is only a few feet uwav, would most un"***?fuL'nia m fill uurnuun?ui^ ua>v- mn\ Ml V Ino store of L. L.
