THE EXPOSITION.
Opening Will lie With Religious Exercises.
Charleston. Special.?In the charter
of the South Carolina Inter-State and
West Indian Exposition Company it
is provided that the Exposition shall
be opened on December 1. It happens
that the 1st of December falls on
Sunday. This fact was not noted un
til several months after the charter
had been granted. The official opening
of the Exposition will not take
place until December 2, but the Board
of Directors have determined upon a
preliminary religious service to be
held on Sunday afternoon, December
1. They wish in this way, to express
their gratitude to God for His help .
in enabling them to complete their
great work and they haye been very
mut'u gratihed, indeed, at the cordial
spirit oi co-operation manifested be
the clergy of the several denominations
in the State. The Sunday services
at the Exposition will consist
rf an elaborate programme of sacred
nutsn: uudei the d:;c<t.o; of Madame
Burbot, of C'nu.ostou. whr. has organized
a r-pe'ial chorus oi L'bO voices for
this occasion, which will be accompanied
by the grand organ, reinforced
by the First Artillery Band of the
United States Army.
Monsignor Cuigley of the Cathol'c
Church, will be present in the place
of Bishop Northrop at this service,
and pronounce the benediction.
The Exposition at Charleston will
be altogcilu r tmifjui: in many of its
features, and ospu-'r.lly in the fact

by a religious demonstration.
Palmetto Points.
Mrs. Lcmmon, of Summervile, who
(lied last month at her home, has bequeathed
to the Epworth orphanage
and the Columbia Female college the
remainder of the property after the
gilts to her relatives and others. Notice
of this was jccfcived from the executor
of the will a few days ago.
This remainder amounts to about
$3,000, and the part given to the college
will be of much benefit to the
institution.
I.aurens. Special?Mr. James Crawford,
of Tumbling Shoals, who lost
an arm Thursday by a gin saw. died
from the terrible shock and the iu
juries otherwise sustained. He was
a most highly respected citizen, a
Mason and a member of the Baptist
church. He was about 50 years old
and leaves a widow and several
children.

statement declares that each member
of that organization who was
honorably discharged is entitled to

regiment was mustered out of service

?this promise of a bounty of $100 for
each man. The members of the heavy
battery will also be delighted at the
prospect. "The Second regiment Will
