12. "In Sheehem." Shechcnt was about
fifty miles north of Hebron. .Jacob owned
pastures there (33: ID) and had dug a well.
13. "Send thee unto them." .Jacob no
doubt had some anxiety about his sons,
because he had removed from Sheehem
on account of the sins they had committed
there; he therefore decides to send Joseph
to learn of their welfare. He could trust
Joseph, and he had no thought that his
brothers would wish to injure him.

times marked by unexpected happenings
in Algeria, says a Paris special in the
' ndon Express. A short time ago a
man named Bourgoin was liberated from
the prison of Bone, and arrested as a
deserted not long after at Nemours.
He admitted that his name was Bourgoin.
but protested that he was not a
deserter. He was. nevertheless, taken
back to Bone by the gendarmes, and
there it was discovered that his arrest
was a mistake.
The strangest part of the story, however.
is that as soon as the military au- i
thorities released him Bourgoin was tak- j
en into custody by the Police Prosecutor i
on a charge of "Imposture to the pre- ;
judice of the State" in causing himself j
to be fed and transported at the pubiic
charge, and he is now doing a month's
imprisonment for that offense.
A fleet of thirty-six steamers is to run
hereafter on the Thames between Pattersca
and I^ondon Prid^e.
