of Rev. K. W. Barnwell, who for
several years past has served as
rector of St. John's Episcopal

account of ill health. Mr. Barn-j
well has also preached once a

month at the Episcopal chapel
here, and kit sermons will be a (
distinct loss to every (?ne who has
had the pleasure of attending the
services conducted by him.
Senator B. R. Tillman delivered
the address to tlie graduating
class at Newberry College Tuesday
night.
Mr. T. Emile Arrowsmith returned
to Georgetown Wednesday

Miss Maggie K. Keller, returned
to her home at Oreston, $. C., alter
closing her school in the Bethel
section, where site has made many
friends.
Mr. L. W. Gilland came home
from (lie South Carolina College

Besides taking a line stand
in his classes iir. Gilland is the
star pitcher of the college basehall
team,which ranked second this
season in the intercollegiate games.
Mr. Gilland, who is now a senior,
has also been elected president or
the college athletic association.

For some time past the town
bas been lufested with dogs, whose
nocturnal orgies were wont to
make'night hideous. Last Sunday
uight some person or persons unknown
to the general public put

town with a terribly fatal result.
Like death, poisou is no respecter
of persons or their dogs, and the
innocent and really valuable canines
suffered along with the curs
of low degree, for which the poison
was probably intended. I p

was registered at Bafr's Hotel
Tuesday. Mr. Montgomery re
ports the crop conditions as baa
in bis county as they are in Williamsburg.
In fact, he says,every
where he has been the prospect, is
very blue. At Lake City he saw
Dr. A. H. Williams, just back
from Bufi'alo, who told him that
along the whole route to that city
the only good crops he saw were
in some parts of Maryland. Every
! where else they were drowned out
