thereby accomolisbed. The select
ions of the entertainment were
?ood and the rendition pare eviience
of thorough and efficient
'raining. The address before the
school was delivered by Prof. (J.
M. Melton, principal of Oak Grove
Academy, Clarendon, S. \ Relating
anecdotes, he kept the children
entertained and impressed on
Iris hearers the great demand for
trained minds, showing that as indention
removes physical labor and
multiplies manifoldly the amount
if work acconipli>hed, the mind ;s
more ami more called up<ui to perlorm
the task. Then, in eloping,
lie pointed out strength of character
as essential to the highest
success and emphasized usefulness
as a prime object of life.
Rev. K. G. Kilgore, the pastor
here*. who hau opened the exercises
with a prayer, was uow cmIIL'd
upon. lie understands captivating
instantly the hearts of
children. All who heard him
were pleaded and compelled much
'>f the time to allow laughter to
hold s* ay. Nevertheless, the
truth impressed was profound,
and he brought out clearly the
possibilities of the youug in attaining
not only to success, but
1U0 in becoming truly great aud
good.
The closing scene was the pathetic
one. Wheu kind and tender
farewells wore exchanged, bitter
