V .. hut a short time, and died from the effects of a case of grippe. He i had been in Kingstree only a short time betore his death and seemed to be iu his usual good health, and , little did the writer think when he bade hun good-bye on that occasion that it was a final farewell. .Mr. (iatnb'e was born July 31.! J83!-, and bad nearly lived out , the allotted time to man. Ills! j lite was an active, eventful and ! successtul one. When it became ! known in Kings tree, and in fact | throughout t he whole county, that i . . tie hau breathed his last 11 chm a gloom over the entire community and everyone recognized the fact that a great and good man had gone. Mr. Gamble spent a good part of iiis lile in and around Kiugstrce, and he had so endeared himself to the citizens ot this community that they heard of Ins death with the greatest sorrow. In many respects Mr. Gamble was a remarkable man. Her never .shirked a duty, was nianlv to a fault, and never deviated I lrom those paths that he conceived I - ? ?i f\ ! to be the path* ol duty. air. uam-; Me was one ol those men who J made his impress upon the surrounding world in whatever sphere lie moved and acted. After his return to his native; State in iSoS lie engaged in plant ing, and when the war between the States came on he was a brave 1 and gallant soldier, lie enlisted j in the 10th Regiment, S. C.V.J and fought from the beginning to; the finish in this great struggle,] and after the war he remained true and steadfast to tkj principles lor which be ioughl. Mr. Gamble was a native of rhicomity. He married * daughter Lif la e Samuel E Graham, 20ili [>!' December, 1SG0. To this union was born iive children, lour of whom and his widow surv've him. His sons, Dr. W. G. ono Dr. S. W. and J, V Gamble, Jr., are we'll known to our people. His daughter being Mrs. A. M. He lived lor his children, and his evewere never large enough to see then. And few men, today could look hack over their lives and see where ihev have done ruore good than Julius 1'. Gamble. When he took a stand he was a giant immovable, and no obstacle wa* loo big tor him 10 over come when he set his head to work to accomplish the task. And they live to-day as monuments to this noble man and to Wless bis memory.
