Miss Florence McMillan, of Charleston,
was on a viait to Mrs. J. C.
Pulinore last Sunday. She is now
in charge of the Gaskins school and
is winning the esteem of the patrons
and the pupils.
Mr. "Winter 8imt, who lived
about a mile from town, departed
this Ufa on the 18th instant, at the
age of about fifty years, leaving a
wire and children. He was a brother-in-law
of our J. A. Green.
Mr. J. R. Philips, of Anniston, Ala.,
has been on a visit to hit brother

about a month ago and has been

The Lake City Grocery Company
begun business a few days ago in
the Kelley building on the corner
of Main Street tind Kailroad Ave*
nuo. The proprietors are Messrs. 8
T Godwin and Cash Epps. They
have oponed up a nice stock of
groceries, and announce it as their
lutention to bend all their energies
towards building up a trade on
strictly first class family groceries.
Miss Tuster Young, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Young, died at
the home or her parents in eotambin

ground on the 17th. Mis* Young

this community where she spent all

has been with us about a month
returning the work due the town.
The gang has worked under many
difficulties and disadvantages since
coining here, cold, short days and
heavy rains; hut when these things i
are taken intoconsideration as they
should be, truth compels us to say
that good work has been done, and
such work as insures better drainage
and consequently better health
to the town. Some of the time has
been spent on the new streets of
i.akeside, and the work there was
well done. From what we have
seen of the county's working convicts,
of the management of the
same by Superintendent Wheeler,
of the system, care and oversight
given by Supervisor <; handler, we
iKilievewe are justified in saying
that no feature of our cont.v government
is better carried out than this,
and credit due Supervisor Chandler
and his supe: inlendcnt.

improve, we are glad to say. lie is |
so far advanced on the road to recovery
that he has been down town !

the most important committees and
a member of three or four of the
other committees of the highest
branch of the general assembly.
