S.C. rmmmam? ? mmmmmmmmmmmmmammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm THURSDAY. DECEMBER 20, 1900. WHOSE IS THE FAULT ? Numerous complaints have been received of late at this office oc-| casioned by the delav r.;ul Ire-J q/ientlv the non-arival of whole * - I packages of papers. addressed to different offices throughout the coitntv. This slate of things is J very annoying to us, and must be still more so to those subscribers who pay for the paper and do not receive )t regularly. We have' been very patient ui the matter, hoping, that the mail servicej would.iniprove, but there seems i to be no prospect ot its growing: i anv better. In 0113 week recently we were notified, that four postofiices along! the line.of lite G. A' W. R. K? missed getjiug packages of Records, and one postmaster writes that it is a frequent occurrence foy the papers to be carried on .to Georgetown and held oyer until the next week. It.would not be surprising for eye or two in dividual papers out of a.thousand to go astray,, but hpw a whole package can he .misplaced we cannot understand* unless through gross carelessness and negligence.* When a package of papers does not arrive by Saturday, we should take it as a favor if tho postmaster woulfl promptly notify us, that soine eifort may be made to trape it up. The papers.are mailed from this office Thursday mornings, regularly, our jorce frequently working the whole night to catch the early mails. Every paper and package is checked oil* betore leaving the office and there should he no delay in forwarding them. Wo are doing all in our power to get the the papers regularly to those en'itled to them, and we urge postmasters along the different Maes to co-operate with us in promptly delivering, tiie paper, ^mu reporting all missing copies or packages. I Look through the columns of * The Record lor. .the announce ments of our enterprising,, up-tothe-times merchants. Every lriend at this newspaper will confer a favor by patronizing those who advertise wilh,us. It will also be to your interest to do this, as those houses which have no bargains to can't advertise them. * j V - - ' ...... 1 A PLEASANT ENTERTAINMENT. i Giqen for Benefit of Miss 7\!eida wUtc'iTt * Sci.ool, (Written l<?: v..} i I'J". - > i T> j nun or oo'inij in^ui a.? ; You wi]l not think me an intruder when 1 try to tell of the,' nice time I had in your dear old oounty last Friday night at a hotj j supper given by the generoja; families of Messrs. GROWTH OF ILLUSTRATION. The Ladies' Home Journal Published j Over 1600 Pictures in 1900. From 624 illustrations in 1S04 ; to over 1600 in 1900 are the figures ! which denote the. numerical j jgifowth and development ct the J j pictorial features in The Ladies'| ; Home Journal in six years. This ! i 400 per Gent increase in nunibors-j is rather dwarfed by the fact that! nearly 10(H)-per cent, more space j is now given to pictures than six j.1 years ago, that the quality or ( i vr>lmp nf the illustrations!' has improved beyond computa-j lion. A few years ago magazine making was- thought by some to have attained a degree of perfpci fion that precluded further ad- ' | vanceinentj but it seems to have! been in its infancy. The reading d public now insists upon illustra:j; ions, and in meeting tiiat demand it is safe to spy that the pictures < printed in The Ladies', liome |, Journal in 1900 exceed in nam-, i per, size, quality and cost, those . published in all the leading magtzines ten j'ears ago.
