DECEMBER 0, I9C0. i = Our friends in Williamsburg I have kept hitting at that Macon J Lesesne case so ihat they have at j Jast made the shenJt write- uiej viovernor that lie will write full i particulars.. Now. we are-sorry to J ?ee this matter pustied to such an i extent. CX' course, if the sheriff did really allow the negro to gel away from the reach of both law and vengeance we think thp matter ought to he attended lo. but if things have been quietly j adjusted without noise, tuss on scandal we think that the present i stirring up is very ill-timed. It i seems to us tbatj he sheriffhas man-: aged to convince everybody who' was really concerned in the mat -! ter that there was no occasion lor any turther excitement. However.' w.e may be mistaken. _ / 4 | J lie foregoing tnusion irvui \u* Florence Daily Times would be1 mildly amusing, if it did not reler to a matter just now uppeimost in the minds ol our people, in which there is not a single element of amusement. The Times inslnu-. ates that the negro Lgsesnc has been put to death in some rays-, terious manner, probably by the method of ^walking the plank" so liirillingly described by itsim aginative young friend J'rmii this county some time age. Z% seems to the Tinves that Whe shenSJias mauaged to. convince everybody who was really concerned; ui*.me matter that tbcre, was no occasion for further excitement." That being the case, the editor of the Tiqies must be the only person "really concerned i? the matter"' As a saying clause? to. this luminous .r.rtiole the Times modestly admits the possibility of iVs being mistaken. With this, we most heartily concur. MtrvT VPiB< PCF \CWCR<;. Assignment of Ministers in Florence District by the Methodist Conference. Early in the mornirg every | boy came to school armed with axe, j hatchet, hoe or rake, the girls lending their aid with brooms and j sweet* faces to inspire the boys to cheerful industry. The observance of Arbor Day is required un-j der the public school law, and on j this occasion the work was faithfully performed. LaJeron we expect and hope for a visit from the patrons and friends of t Ire school) to see what we have donev as well; as to show their interest in the j school.. We are underlie tutelage of an I old veteran teacher, a faithful | servant in the cause,, and we all respect him. for his firmness and love him for his untiring efforts for our improvement. The school is progressing n'cely, and we lmpe to make a good record before the term closes. We are twenty miles from, the railroad,, but we hens twice a week j the steamboat whistle as she pliesi hnr trnv silrsny ihg waters ot his-1 toricold Black Mingo-creek. Oilier sounds, too, cheerily wake the echoes and relieve the monotony of country life. At early dawn the voice of the ploughman is heard as he begins his daily task; the hunter's horn, and the deepmouthed hounds tell their story of a night 's sport in chase of sly Reynard,or the pursuit of a.coon or 'possum, to his lair. This is the season when, farn life is most attractive.-.The planter has sold, his produce al a fair p/ice and is content. Best wishes to you,.Mr. Editor, | and success to Ike Counts Rej JOKD. GEOrOE.
