"'e lull work of the gospel ministry.
A call to the pastorale ot
lndiaiitowu church having been
duly placed in his hands and accepted
by him, a commission was
appointed to iuslal him 011 Thursday,
Nov. Sth. This commission
was to consist of ilev. W. II. .Mills
as chairman, to preach, preside
and charge '.he people; lie v. F.
W.Gregg to charge the pastor,
and Elder F.N. Wilson, of the
Manning church. The two former
came, the latter was absent, his
preseuce, however, was not absolutely
necessary. The usual hymn
hymn and petition of public worship
were rendered in connection
with the service. Mr. Mills took
his text Jrom a part of the 18th
verse of the xvi chapter of Matthew,
"And upon this rock I will
build my church." These words
were spoken by Jesus to his disciples
by themselves alone. 1st, the
foundation; 2d.the superstructure
the rock?Peter?the confession
which Peter had just made, the
disciples generally. The words,
"Upon this rock;" the confession,
uThou art the Christ, the Son of
the living God." "I am," came
to Peter by divine revelation, being
the first confession or revelation
that was ever made. Jesus of
Nazareth was the Christ, the Son
of the living God. This is the
foundation of the church. Every
part of the living church of God
requires a fjruiessiwn ui tum?sion
of your faith iu the Lord JeX
sus Christ. This stands underi
heath it all?Thou arc Christ, the
Son ot the living GoL It lies at
the foundation of the individual
member of ihe church. Whom
gay ye that I am? Jesus is the
Christ, the son of the living Gud.
