Will Sparks, of Sumter, was in
town Thursday. Mr. Sparks spent
several months in this town a few
years ago building the (\ M. Kelley
twin stores on Main street. He is
a good musician and was the organizer
and leader of the Luke I'ity
brass band, which now, unfortunately,
is no more Mr. Sparks is now
farming near Sumter.

horse, which was hitched to a buckl.oard
ar.d driven by a colored boy,
took fright at the crossing of Main
Street and the railroad and went up
the road leading to Lynchburg in a
run. About one mile above town
is a gate across the road. The horse
'jtiinp'd this gate and the wagon
smashed it in piece-. In fact we art
informed that thegaie was literally
torn into splinters. This episode
oajjsed little or no delay in the
flight. The horse was finally brought
to-a standstill at Mr. Webster's,
t hree miles from the starting point,
Through it all the boy kept hi-seat,

drove the horse back to town. The
full extent of the damage was ?

to play the last tribute.
. The body was in charge of the Lake

I lodge acting for the Florence lodge,
of which the deceased was a member.
