We have it upon good authority
that more tobacco is being
sold in the Star Warehouse than
in any other warehouse in the
state except one at Muilin*.
This is saying a good deal, but it
' is not an empty boast, and would
not be said did wo not regard our

Saturday too much uciderM
caused a young man to use a strin g

Last Sunday as Mrs. Alt?x l\ir rott
was driving off from Ihe Baptist
Church with her six children
in the buggy with her, one of the
little fellows fell out and the rear
wheel passed over his body.
Luckily it was the wheel on the:
side of the lighter load, and it was!
thought that the injury was not
serious.

lengthy speeches.

Looking Glass for Home People,
Rev. L. L. Thomas, a colored
preacher in town, has just issued
a booklet entitled, '-LookingGlass
lor Home People." Being the
only literary attempt we have seen 1
from a colored man, we have looked
aver its contents with considerable
interest.
The pamphlet contains 30 pages,
paper bound, and 20 short chapters.
The subjects treated are of
the plain, everyday affairs ot life,

our merchants, has enlarged his
stock and is now ready for the
fall trade.
Mr II. L* Grayson has opened
a nic.e little stock ot merchndise'
at this place for the Jail trade
which promises to be good.
The people have had hot and
dry weather for curing louder.
Cotton is irjured seriously bj'
the hot weather; not more than
than half a crop may be expected ;
in the county. Peas are also injured
by the hoi and dry weather |
which may result in a short crop.
Corn is ripening in; some places i
a lull crop will be made where it
was well worked. The largesi
part of the corn crop however is '
almost a failure.
