town a day or two last week.
Dev. W. C. Kelly, the beloved
pastor of the Methodist church at
this place, preached an able and
impressive sermon in the .Methodist
vhnrch last Sunday night on
"love and friendship" A large
and attentive congregation was
out to hear him.
The grip is epidemic in this
'community. Very few have escaped
this mnlisnftKt malady.
/ Rev. W. 1'. Scott has been quite
sick for some time and is still very
feeble. He is suffering front something
like dropsy of the heart, and
seems to be wr proving very slowly.

Kobert C. Day, an escaped lunatic
from Boston, Mass., was arrested
here last week and taken
to the State hospital at Columbia.
Day was formerly a prominent
business tnau in Boston, and i?

mind became deranged they
placed him in the insane hospital
at Boston for treatment, but he
escaped and wandered down to
this place before they succeeded
in locating him. A man by the
name of Bars low was sent after
Day, but he stubbornly refused to
;;o back, w> it was decided to have
him lodged in the asylum at Columbia.
The official papers were
I made out and turned over to Mr.
i\ 8. Wall lor execution and by
adopting strategic methods he
succeeded in inducing Day to accompany
him to Columbia without
any trouble whatever. Mr. W.
I. Willoughby went along with
Mr. Wall.
By the wa.v, Mr. Wall is being
urged to enter the race lor sherilF.
and should lie decide to do so the
J people will make no mistake n
voting for him. Mr. Wall is a good
man, and would make a capital
