It.now seems ns if :i sliong effort was about 10 bo ruaie toreorganize the prohibition forces of this State, the object of which is io suppress as lar as possible any and all legal and illegal manufacture and sale ol intoxicating li pior?asa beverage. It tins eilort to orcamjm maime* 'V' -then we may expect our coining .political campaign to be lively and important. 1 lie issue is an old one. and is 011 to stay, until rightly settled, and because of its magnitude of importance, will enlist the pi avers >. and sympathies of a large majority of the wisest and best people of the State. i This being true, wo one weed tear being caught in bad company in lending his support to a properly constituted prohibition meas Ill e. Much Ciin be said and written on the subject, and we think now j.s the tune to speaic out. preparatory to arranging the platform upon which we are to stand and contend for the right. We must have a formulated standard, definitely fixed, lor much of our permanent success depends upon this. Ouce we decide what we are going to ask foi at the ballut box and have made choice (d' a standard bearer, willi all minor differ euces settled, then we can g* forward without any internal Irietion or ?trite. . The more thoroughly matters are ventilated now, tlie wiser and belter vviil be our stipulated arrangements. when we appear before the people, to appeal in the .name of God and humanity to reason and conscience. Some men tell ns prohibition is all right theoretically, but cannot be enforced. 'iliese men. many of them, are honest in their opinion, and il will not do for the friends of temperance to go into a political contest blindly and rashly, with no well delined means lor the enfoi cement of prohibition, provided we gain it at the ballotbox. We must aim at something definite. and not lay ourselves open to attacks we cannot repel and criticisms we cannot answer. It would be far better for the cause, and also for the welfare of the State, lor us to propose and defend a prohibition measure, upon the ground of right, with well do lined plans for making it effectual and then be defeated than to rush recklessly on, with no provided means ot*enforcement, with only prohibition as a watchword and succeed. The simple tiling of electing a governor and a few legislators here and there over the State, with ? provided means of carrv? * jng out the law, would 110 doubt be a great calamity.
