Mr. Eddie Johnston, recently in the employ of Nesmith Bros., nas tone to accept a position in North Carolina. His sister, Miss Sarah Johnson, is also in Nor.h Carolina visiting her sister, Mrs. Gilmore, much to the regret ot their many friends. Mr. and Mrs. Billie Hannah and family have moved in onr little town. Me extend thein a warm reception, and hope others may follow their example, lor we are anxious to see Cades flourish. The Misses Percival, of CharlesIon, are visiting the family ol Mr. Henry Johnston. A lew weeks ago a colored woman locked her two small chil drrn in her house and went to a party. I Tournament at Salters. Your scribe attended the tournament near Mr. Ed. McCullough's place on Wednesday, the 10th inst. Mr. VV. D. Bryan acted as herald end Messrs. S. E. McCuliough, A. Blakely and J. L. Lifrage as judges. The riding commenced about Oi.e o'clock and the contest was a [short one, there being no ties and no riding over. At 1 o'clock Thursday afternoon the wile of a professor in Winthrop college looked herself in her bedroom and slashed herself three times across the wrist Willi a razor. An hour later her husband came home from the college and, going into a room downstairs where the children were, asked them if their mother was in the house. As he spoke he glanced upwards and saw blood stains forming and enlarging on the ceiling. He ran to the room above, broke open the door and found his wife bleeding profusely, and unconscious. On her breast was pinned a nole stating that she blamed him for nothing, but that she was unable to properly raise her children,and therefore she had resolved to die. A physician was summoned immediately and restoratives applied. It is thought that the lady will recover. .
