THE EVILS OF MORMONISM.
A Growing Menace to the Church of
God.
A new influence is at work in
South Carolina. A new note has
fallen npon the earot'the people,
ami the civilisation Of the aire receives*
another stab. The Litter
cc Day Saints are here, itinerants from
"*J| the land of Utah, calling them
selves Mormons telling the world
what they believe. An apparition
breaks upon the vision and we
stand aghast with wonder. We
hear a wail as if it comes from the
lower deep, telling us that Mormonism
is not Christianity,it is an
other gospehpoorApocrypha teach
ing the same damnation that is
found in the Koran, and the infidel
writers. This Monnmism denies
what Matthew, Murk, Luke
and John preached, and strike, in
cold blood at what Paul, James,
Jude and Peter wrote. It comes
to us with unblushing offront ery
and tells us that God, the great Goii>
oi" the universe, is nothing but a
man. It tells us that Adam is the
God of Jesus Christ, and Jesus
Christ the God of Joseph Smith,
the God of the present generation.
If there is anything in the domain
of blasphemy or Pantheistic rea
soning that can beat this for bot
tomless pit philosophy we would
like to read it. It sets up for Joseph
Smith that he is a prophet ot
God. It tells that he is entitled
to a seat with Moses, David and J
Elijah and that he was a believer i
in a plurality of wives. This Sa- ;
tanic rot is as bad as the religion
which teaches that the soul can be
reduced to sensation, conscience
to calculation, free will to median- i
ics, immortality to eternal sleep, I
man to brute and God to matter.
To fall in with this monstrosity,
the world would be shrouded in
darkness, the nation s forget God.

fanatic addicted to netarous practices,
and was by no means an
angel in disguise. He left his na- j

and after a long search he
found his Eldorado, dropped into
Ohio, and there sat down to rest.
But lo, at midnight when a storm
was raging, when nature seemed to j
be in travail, the sheriff appeared
and pasted a writ upon his back.

This writer has no affinity lor
any system of religion that ignores
the King Jarues version of the bible.
Mormonism does this. It
dismisses this book in dishonor.
It strikes in cold blood at its teachings
and throws back to God that
his revelation to man is only a romance
and fable. It has no eye
to look toward Bethlehem, it hears
no howling mobatCavalry murdering
