giving with her parents near
Kingstree.
The editor is in Rock Hill this
week, attending the Baptist State
Convention; but during our absence
one of Kingstree's fairest
young maidens will wield the lo
cal reportorial pen.
Miss Nellie Bristow has return
ed from FlorcAice where she has
been visiting her parents. Miss
Nellie is a charming young lady
and the few days she was out of
town she was greatly missed.
Kev. R. W. Barnwell, of Florence,
conducted services in the
Episcopal chapel Sunday morning
All who attended were pleased
with his sermon. He will in future
fill the pulpit of this chapel every
fourth Sunday,
The Thanksgiving hop given by
the Young Mens Social Club was
largely attended and thorughlv

in its infancy, but have given
manv pleasant entertainments.

this is the year to return real
estate, all who own such property

Treasurer Rollins has finished
his rounds of the county collecting
taxes, and will be found till
Dec. 31st, except Saturday of
each week, in his office at the
court house, to receive payments.
The residence of Mr. John S.
McCullough, of Ced~r Swan p. was
broken into the night of the 21 ts.
and over ninety dollars in money
and valuable papers were stolen
the robber has been caught and
part of the money recovered.
Jessie McGill, a negro boy,
eleven years old, living on Mr.
Shaws place, about three miles
from town, fell from a wagon last
Monday afternoon and split his
face open from forehead 'o chin.
Dr. Scott dressed the wound.
She county treasurer has filled
his last appointment in the county,
and will be in his office regularly
until Dec. olst. Notwithstanding
the scrci'v of money, he
reports collections qnte as gool.

this meeting recentiv that there is
little else to say now. We want
however, to make this, our last,
urgent call to all so is,and grandsons
of Confederate veteran- to

There should be no need of any
further request to them, and we
hope to see more than a hundred
names added In the roll.
The meeting is to be a public
affair, and to it the public is in vit
ed. There will be ushers present
to see that all the ladies get
seats, and the best of order is (
promised. The address ought to 1
attract a great crowd, an 1, no 1
doubt will. ' ol. Armstrong is
too well known as a platform
lecturer to need any introduction I
here, as is also Dr. El well and 1
Col. Duttlop.

Wilmoit Matthews, a
son of Mr. W W Matthews, died
Fast Monday morning. The little
boy had been ill for some weeks
and his death was not expected.
He- was a bright little fellow,
about 11 years old, and was well
liked by his playmates. Ilis
uutimely demise is much regretted.

the sympathy of the community.

Change of R. R. Schedule.
On last Sunday a new schedule
went into effect. So far as it concerns
our people only two changes,
and those very slight ones, need
be noticed.
The morning train from Charleston.
heretofore at riving here at
7:20 will be due at 8;29, and the
night train to Charleston, leaving
here at about 9 o'clock, remains

AN ATTEMPT WAS MADE LAST
SATURDAY NIGHT

while leaving the office last Saturday
night. The shooting took
