between polished steel rollers, and the
result is a strip of heavy plated composi
tion, from which the cases, feaeks, ceo*
tres, bezels, &c. are cut and shaped by
suitable dies and formers. The gold In
these eases Is sufficiently thick to admit
of all kinds of chasing, engraving and
enamelling; the engraved cases have
been carried until worn perfectly
smooth by time and use without remov
ing the gold.*
