A NEW FIZZLE.
Pigs in Clover Laid on the Shelf.
There h a new puzzle to perplex
people's brains. It represents a Chi
cago street done in pasteboard. At
one end of the (hoioughfare is a
.buildinir .walked “World’s Pare."
OH the itilbr of the edifice are in
scribed the words “Closed on Sun
day,”
There are three little men made of
lead each about three-quarters of an
fuch liigh. Attached to the feet of
each of them is'half a bullet, which
makes them stand erect. To solve
the problem rail til for by tlarpujszle
these gentlemen must be placed to
gether at. the door of the World’s
Fair building.
The fair being closed on Sunday
it is deniable that they rd unM find
their way to church, which is a paste
board structure at the other end of
the paseboard street. However the
avenue aforesaid is lined on both sides
with a series of resorts of varied dis
sipation. It is almost dollars to
doughnuts that thr little men will
find their way into some of these
places, before getting as far as the
church, in which ease they may miss
the service altogether.
The puzzle is to start the little
ram together at tho door of the
world's fair building, getting them

“ ‘Lucky Baldwin, of Sau Francis
co,” said E. J. Ward, of Denver,
“thirty years ago was an impecu
nious and insignificant young fellow,
who loafed around the rowdy saloons
of ’Frisco. He scarcely ever drew a
sober breath, lie hud no friends, he
had no money, and he had no clothes.
He was simply an object floating
around on the surface of occasions
trusting to luck. One day he -made
a ‘stake.’ Haw or where he got it no
one knew or knows to this day.
But he got it and for three months
after that he was seen no more around
his usual haunts. One day he blew
into town and related that he had
discovered a vein up in Nevada, lim
itless in the production of gold. He
brought specimens of the gold and
it was good. He began at once to
organize a company to work it.
There was a preacher in San Fran
cisco who had some spare cash, and
he put it into the company. Not
long afterward the stockholders dis
covered that Baldwin’s claim did not
amount to anything, and the stock
went down to almost nothing. Mean
while there were men at work on the
claim, and one fine morning sure
enough they struck a vein. A courier
was sent to 'Frisco to Baldwin
with the news. Baldwin went to
the bunk and drew out all the mon
ey he had. He then went to bed
and sent fol‘ all the stockholders.
They visited his room. 'Gentlemen)’
said he, ‘I am ouMny death bed, so
