The Court of Sessions opened Monday Morning with Judge Wal lace presiding, and Solicitor Johnson at his post The only case of importance tried so far has been, J. Dozier Flinu, charged with murder. Fliun was acquitted. True bills were found against Justin M. CoS, the Electric Light Company swindler, for getting prop erty under false pretences and for disposing of property under lien without written consent of lienee. Most of the bail cases were con tinued, as there is work enough to occupy the court in delivering the' "e confess Having shown that the demonetiza tion of silver and the building up of the protective tariff system were essentially Republican measures as opposed to the Democratic doctrines of bimetallism and a tariff for rev enue only, we propose to show by a simple statement that the two ques tions rest precisely upon the same principle. No one will deny that the protective tariff is class legislation in favor of the manufacturers and against the consumers. Neither will it be denied by any one who is at all conversant with the first prin ciples of political economy, that when either of two metals upon which the circulating medium of a country is based, is deprived of any of its money rights, the other is thereby rendered correspondingly more valuable. It follows as a plain deduction from this principle, that when silver was de- mouetifced, gold being left as the single standard ami being only; about half in amount of the two'metals together was doubled in value, and its holders reaped euormons profits* from the transaction. At tho satne thne the money of Hre cou ntrf,' 'tfhfeh had al ready reached he danger limit of con traction, was reducad far below the needs of the people, increasing their burdens by decreasing the value of all products from which money could be derived for the payment of debts previously contracted, as well as for the transaction of ordinary business. The large capitalists and holders of gold alone profited by silver demone tization, while the great mass of the people suffered and are still suffering from its effects. If this is not class legislation of the rankest kind, then oqr inability to under- is effectually disposed of by the fact that, the silver coins of European countries are worth more in propor tion to gold than ours, their ratio be ing 15 to 15} and ours 16 of silver to 1 of gold. I 8 ^ reasonable to suppose that any sane man would carry his silver money to the melt ing pot, ship it across the Atlantic and dispose of it for less than it was worth at home? There is not the slightest danger that this country will ever be inundated by a flood of silver. The cry is merely a shib boleth of the gold bugs to rally their followers and frighten their antagon ists. The first mention of writing is found in Exodus xvii,14.
