What promises to lie one of the

now being erected for Woods A
Woods, by-Messrs. Ward and Nach
man, on the east side of the Square,
between the store of Joye it Sanders
and the Nachman building on the
corner. The ceiling in the front
store will be twenty-two feet high,
with a gallery on the sides. A wide
stairway will give easy access to the
gallery on each side. The grocery
department will lie separated from
the main store, but there will be an
r archway to pass from one store to

In our next issue we will give our
readers the proceedings of the Con
vention, which meets to-day in Col
umbia.
The pastor will preach a series of
sermons on “The Man Jesus.” His
sermon on next Sunday night being
“Jesus in the Home;” and extends a
cordial invitation to all classes of
our people to attend these services.
The whole night service will only
occupy one hour.
Obituary.
Edward the infant son of Mr. and
Mrs. C. S. Nettles died on Sunday
night. The services were conducted
by Rev. J. A. Rice at the Methodist
Church, and the interment was at
| the Baptist Cemetery.

a graphic and interesting sketch of
the good that was being accomplish
ed by the Lyceum, and its possibili
ties for thefuture.
5th. “Darlington the progressive

Smyrl, who gave a sketch of the
rapid grow tli^of the town, and paid a
glowing tribute to its enterprise and
pluck.

Mr. Geo. McCown gave an elegant
fish dinner to his friends, on last
Wednesday, and every Duly had a
-nice time. The editor regrets that
lack of time prevented his acceptance
of an invitation to be present. There

as to the importance of such a thing
as this, and will oniy say that it
would be one of the liest legacies that
we could leave behind us, and one
for which wc would receive thegrati-
tude of those who will inhabit the
future city of Darlington. ’The ex
penditure of some money and the ex
ercise of a proper public spirit, on
the part of the property holders,
would make it practicable to have a
beautiful winding drive way, extend
ing from the Factory to the Ceme
tery. Of course the road would he
at the foot of the hill, and some
work would have to he done in the
way of leveling &e., hut this would

would probably bo* about one mile

hundredth anniversary, of this im
