The man who really loves anything delights to make sacrifices for it. The Alliance cause is no exception.— Freeman. Please give t he pathetic story of the sacrifices made for the Alliance by Tillman, Shell, Irby, Stokes and other lights of theorder. Cardinal Manning, oneof the great lights of the Catholic Church in Kngland, who died some weeks ago. furnishes a remarkable illustration of the benevolence and unselfishness that often characterizes the prelates of this Church, and although the in come attached to tlie high position he held was wry large, his estate was only worth about fifteen hundred dollars, and all of this hegave to ob jects of charity. About a year ago when the dock laborers of bond >n went on a strike, it was largely owing to his influence that great trouble and blood shed were averted. His whole life, a long and eventful one, was devoted to the welfare of others, and his death was not only a loss to his church, but to his country as well. Will some of our contemporaries, who are so zealously advocating five coinage, please tell us if they think that the passage of tlie Silver Pill by Congress will lie better for the South than the election of a Democratic President. We can't have both’and if the large democratic majority in Con gress pass a Pit I for the benefit of tlie Silver Kings, the Republican nomi nee will get three-fourths of the elec toral votes. It is in the highest de gree inconsistent to de nand that con gress give us a Low Tariff, and at tlie same time insist that the silver mine owners be enriched at the expense of the people. Are they entitled to any more consideration than the New England manufacturers:' The Tariff enriches the one and it is gravely proposed to give the other a chance to get at the hard earned money of the farmer and laborer. church forever meddle: spiritm; nid State should be apart, and the - in polities is ! shipwreck. lunch kept that. danger of Pile Darling-ion IIeuaui man is i- good, true, patriotic editor. Of course, as they put it, the advo cates of free coinage have all the ar guments on their side of the question, but despite this profession of confi dence, they have not seen fit to at tempt an answer to Mr. Darter's speech on the subject; and, unless we are mistaken, have no intention of doing it. If, us they say, they want the people to come to a correct under standing of these Ocala demands why in the name of justice don't they give their readers a chance to see the arguments on the other side. We have published a number of articles in favor of the Sub-Treasury and free coinage, for the simple rea son thut.we wanted our readers to see both sides, and we requested the sub scriber who prepared tnem to do hi.- best and make them :.s strongus pos sible.
