At one period in the history of the University of Kansas a secret society broke into being. The boys composing it wore a badge consisting of the letters ••T. C.,' at least two inches long, wrought ont of new tin. No one could guess what the object of the society might lie. until it became evident that turkeys were mysteriously disappearing from various localities. Tims the matter ran on until, in an unlucky hour, the boys raided the ixnil- try yard of Judge Nelson Stephens. Now. the judge was not a man to lie tritied with: he soon detected the rogues and resolved forthwith to punish them in his own peculiar way. Without mentioning the discovery outside Ins own family, he politely in vited all the “T. O.V to supper. They were delighted with the invitation and 0 j accepted it forthwith. Tho judge re ceived them most cordially, and kept them in a roar with fanny stories until supper was announced. Still shaking with laughter, tho guests were shown into tlie dining room and assigned their places. On the plate of each "T. O.” was a •’"•'lingo turkey! The judge bogged ids guests to help themselves, and went on •i i. | with Ids funny stories as if he wore , accustomed to serve his guests with whole turkeys every day in the year. The boys were in torture; they could neither eat nor listen. Tho judge, how ever. too polite to notice their embar rassment. simply urged them to cat. mid kept on with Ids stories. Thus did he “roast" tile hoys as thoronghly as they had ever roasted his turkeys. That very night tho disconsolate "Tur key Catchers” disbanded, and their badges wore seen no more.
