A better satisfied audience than
filled the opera house to see “A So
cial Ses.ion” last night, seldom re
turns from an evening's entertain
ment. This attraction is well ealcu-
son, D. D., of (inviisbohi,
the colored Baptist Church.
The building was packed, and
the large audience listened w'th the
closest attention to a most, admira
ble and well delivered address, which
was replete with wise counsel to his
hearers. The speaker ignored poli
ties entirely, and af'er a brief sketch
of (ho progress made by the colored
people since the War, he devoted his
attention to a discussion of social
and moral questions. He spoke elo
quently of the importance of elean-
lii ess and refinement, in their homes
and pointed out how necessary it was
that they should lead moral lives if
they wished to make themselves
stand well in the estimation of the
world. He also spoke of the im
perative necessity of their educating
themselves, learning to think, and
then of putting their thoughts into
action.
This is but a very imperfect sketch
hut will

marks. Dr. Grandison is President
of a College in Greensboro, and is
doing a great work for his people.

eloquent and graceful speaker.
