It does not speak well for the moral and cultured city of Spartan burg, that a pigeon shooting match should have taken place there on the fourth of July. It would he hard to conceive of anything more useless and inhuman, and everyone who had a hand in it ought to have been fined and imprisoned. The match may have taken place outside of the corporate limits, but public opinion, which is often stronger than law, could, had it been bought to hear, and have stopped it. some tomatoc •, and the order was i promptly filled. Where there was so much good mus ic, it was rather a pity that we did not have two concerts instead of one. In addition to our local talent, Charleston, Florence and Cheraw were all represented, and it is al most needless to say that they all received a large measure of applause*. Where all was so creditable it would he in had taste, even if we had the inclination, and the » nsical ability, to make any distinction in regard to the individual performers; and for this reason v:t* only speak of it in a general way.
