Good Crop Reports.
Mr. J. H. Privett, one of our best
citizens and farmers, who lives in
the Stokes Bridge neighborhood, re
ports the crops to be very promising,
and the farmers are corresponding
ly happy.
Let us Know About the Crops.
We earnestly request our friends
to send us accounts of the crops and
other items of interest. We will pub
lish them if we'have to leave out onr
editorial matter and the town lo
cals.
Tropical Fruit.
Dr. J. C. Willcox lias an orange
tree in his yard with about thirty
oranges on it.
Mrs. Schmid has a banana plant
that has a hunch of fruit, and anoth
er one of our citizens has two pine
apple plants.
Brutal Sport.
It does not speak well for the
moral and cultured city of Spartan
burg, that a pigeon shooting match
should have taken place there on the
fourth of July. It would he hard
to conceive of anything more useless
and inhuman, and everyone who
had a hand in it ought to have been
fined and imprisoned. The match
may have taken place outside of the
corporate limits, but public opinion,
which is often stronger than law,
could, had it been bought to hear,
and have stopped it.

Darlington hasTn all probability,
more eligible building lots than any
other town in the State. Everybody
who wants to live in a hustling town
will be welcome and can
good place for a home.
Ho to McCall and Burch’s and see
the bargains they arc offering on
their remnant counter.
Retain the old Names.
A cultured friend who is some
thing of an enclypoedia about mat-
tersof this kind, calls our attention to
the misspelling of the neck of land
on the Pee Dee commonly called
Kol in’s neck, and calls attention to
the fact that it was named for Peter
Lobbyn, or his family, one of the
first settlers, and makes the very
timely suggestion that these historic
secure a names should not be changed unless
for very strong reasons.
He also calls attention to the mis-

Where there was so much good mus

not have two concerts instead of one.
In addition to our local talent,
Charleston, Florence and Cheraw
were all represented, and it is al
most needless to say that they all
received a large measure of applause*.
Where all was so creditable it would

inclination, and the » nsical ability,
to make any distinction in regard to
the individual performers; and for
this reason v:t* only speak of it in a
general way. Darlington is never
unmindful of home talent, but at
the sanietiine is always ready to give
a warm welcome to those who honor
us by their presence; especially when
they come to aid in a worthy object; I
