A Wonder Worker.
Mr. Frank Huffman, a young man
of Burlington, Ohia, states that lie

He was persuaded to try Dr. King’s

Some of our farmers report good

All our leading merchants, willi-
<out exception, report that trade is
much better now than last Spring,
and that a good many of their first
purchases have been duplicated. The
meaning of this is very plain, and
proves conelvsively that the farmers
of Darlington know how and where
to buy gobds,'and what is more im-
- portant have the money to pay for
them. - The merchants of our town
have big stocks and sell their goods
at prices that are pretty hard to meet.
If anybody is skeptical in regard to
this statement a visit to the stores
here will soon convince him that
Darlington is the commercial metro
polis of the Fee Dee, and intends re
maining so.
There were some beautiful flowers
at the Methodist Church on Sunday,
, and nothing could be more appropri
ate than using them to adorn the
house set apart for the worship of
the Creator. They are the work of
his hands, and the contemplation of
their purity and beauty brings us
nearer to the source of ail good, and
lifts up the heart in adoration of
Him who not only created the flow
ers for our enjoyment, bnt whose
- fiat of omnipotence called countless
worlds into •existence. Ami what a
lesson do they teach, from the hum
ble violet that blooms beneath our
feet to the queenly rose and stately
lily, they all have their mission, and,
though silent, as truly speak the
praise of God, as the feathered songs
ter whose joyous notes fill the air
with melody. Flowers can be truly
said to be the universal coin of love
and kindness, and they bear sweet
messages of remembrance to those we
love. They are appropriate at all
times and under all circumstances;
in the time of rejoicing or of mourn
ing. We adorn our homes with them,
we use them at the wedding feast,
we adorn the Temple of the Most
High with flowers, we send them as
messengers of forgiveness to our ene
mies, we pluck the choicest blossoms
for our friends, and when those we
• love are called away, when pain and
sorrow cease, with tender and rever
ent hands we place flowers on the
heart that has ceased to beat, and
with an unspoken prayer our hearts
are lifted up to God, that the eyes,
now closed on earthly scenes, may be
opened amid the flowers of Paradise.
