murmured or suid a word although
his beloved son was to be the victim,
but meekly submitted to God's w 11.
Secondly, his promptness. He made
no delay, but proceeded at the lirst
dawn of day to execute tho command
delivered to hitu by the angel of the
Lord.
Thirdly, he kept his trouble to him
self, fearing that publicity, might
thwart the execution ol God's will.

livered an address in tin interest of
foreign missions. Interesting par

ol this Church in Brazil. At one
Church in this country as an indica
tion of the success of tho cause,
?-150 were raised by the members, and
the same amount by a society organ
ized among the ladies of the Church.
The money so raised was applied to
the support of the Church, and tho
employing of a bible reader We
were urged to redoubled efforts for
the promotion of this important
cause.
Lutheran Church?In the even
ing Rev. J. F. Riser preached from
the words, "And as Moses lifted up
the serpent in the wilderness, even so
mtibt the son of man be lifted up,"
The preacher showed he analogy be
tween the brazen serpenj which was
lifted up in the wilderness, and which
if tho Israelites merely looked upon
would cure their, of the bites of the
fterpents which were scut to scourge
them, and the .Savior who w;u> placed

the result of their sins. In either
case a simple look was necessary but
it must be the look ot faith. Christ

We regret to learn of the death of
Mrs. Davis, the mother of Mr. J. \V.
Davis1 who was recently killed in the
unfort ticute encounter which is well
known to our people. She was
buried on Monday morning, leaving

her loss.

local strolls of examining a must
beautiful and ingenious piece oi
handiwork executed by Miss Alber
gotti. a daughter of Mr. T. \V. A Iber
gotti. It was a brooch and a pair
of ear rings made of tho scales of fish
caught in the Ed is to River. Tho
scales were beautifully polished, and
presented a pearl-like appearance,
tbe whole being tastefully arranged
on silver wires. We appreciated tho
