We learn that a colorod boy about
twelve years of age, on the farm of
Mr. George Dantzlcr in Middle
Township, was burned to death on
Tuesday last. The mother had just
left the house to attend to some wo.k,
ami, hearing a noise, look book ami
saw her child on fire: Aid could not
he rendered in time to save the lad's
life; he was buried on Wednesday.

On last Satin day about 3 j) in.,
the: quietness of our Town was again
disturbed by the.alarm of (ire and a
tide of excited citizens was rushing
toward the Kail Road. As usual on
such occAsi 'iis conilicfing rumors

until it was ascertained positively
that Mr Kiggs' Mill on the Five
Notch Road was on lire. From the
best information gathered from the
hands at work, it was concluded that
the fire originated from matches in
the cotton which was beiug ginued a',
the time. The shed, gin, and much
of the machinery were destroyed be
fore tho fire companies reached the
scene. We learn there was no insur
ance on the property.
This is tho third or fourth timo
Mr. Kiggs has been a heavy sulfercr
from fire, )et his indomitable spirit of
enterprise is ever found equal to tho
emergency. We trust another, and
a better mill will soon rise up from
the ashes of the old one to prove that
a noble spirit cannot bo kept down
even by such a series of misfortunes.
Mr. liiggs ha-i the sympathies of the
entire community with him. Could
not some appliance bo attaehod to
an engine by which a volurau of
steam might bo thrown into a lint
room in cases of a fire from such
causes? It would pay.
