Wc arc having hot weather, and with the
continued drought, the small grain crops and
gardens are seriously injured. Where a good

The colored population oPthe South have
always ev inced a peculiar dislike for the word
■nnjm as applied to themselves, owing, pro
bably. to its common use during the i>ei iud of
their slavery. But since their freedom, their
distaste has grown into intolerncc, and they
now repudiate it along with their favorite
color, red. Perhaps it, is a reasonable an
tipathy, considering every thing, hut it may
be well for them to know that urjro
means simply /.lark, and that, if according
to their view, the former is the former is the
synonym of Ifis Satanic Majesty, the latter
must be equally so. In this connection we
may remark that the word frrrthnuH, which
is of emancipation coinage, after the lapse of
many ages may, in default of written history
disclose to the observant an important
treasure of historic truth. Suppose such a
condition, with the possibility of fixing the
precise origin and date of the word, will it not
when Lakcu in contradistinction to it relative
word freeman, discovered the fact of a race
enslaved and suddenly set at liberty?
This is what has been beautifully termed
fossil history, and an instance is to be found
in point in the reciprocal relations of certain
Haxon and Norman words, which maintained \
their nationality and footing amid the inter- '
fusion of languages after the Xorman On-j
quest, and by means of which, Archbishop !
Trench observes that, supposing the dcstrue- !
tion of all written facts, the history of that
period might be almost entirely reconstruct
ed. Such words as ox, beef, throne, lord,
churl, king, and many others, Xorman and
Saxon, are. relied upon as the vehicles of
the facts. And in like manner will frrohitrtn
bear down to future generations the histori
cal fact of which it is the witness Churlrt-

DISEASES of the blood.
‘‘The life of the flesh is in the Blood,” is a
Scriptural imixiin that science proves to be true.
The people talk of bad blood, as the cause of
many diseases, nnd like many popular opinion*
this of bad blood is founded in truth.
The symptoms of bad bipod nr. usually .juitc
plain—bud Digestion—cause imperfect nutrition,
and consequently the circulation is feeble, the
soil tissues fooso their tone and elasticity. «nd
the tongue becomes pale, broad, and frequently
covered w ith a pasty white coat* This condition
soon shows itself in roughness of the skin, then
in Kruptive and Ulcerative diseases, nnd when
long continued, results in serious lesions of the
Brain, Liver, Lungs, or urinary apparatus.—
Much, vory much, suffering is caused by impure
blood, It is estimated by some that one-fifth ol
the human family are effected with scrofula in
some form.
When I he Blood is pure, you arc not so liable
to any disease. Many impurities of the Blood
arise from impure diseases of largf cities. Kra-
dicato every impurity from the fountain of life,
and good spirits, fair skin and vital strength will
return to you.

1st. It is more LIBFdlAL lo the Insurers than
any other Gompany. and will cvcntuailv become

fid. The loans of this Ce.nipanv are as-liberal
as other companies, who declare dividends a. the
end of the second, third and fourth r ears, hut
this company at the end of the firs: and on v
year. Thereby the insurer snves several years’
interest on the loans by insuring ?ii fids c
