The March nunber of this valuable month

interesting matter. We observe with pleas
ure tbeaditional efforts of the Publishers, to
please an interest by the]iiitroduction of wood

commence its second year. It is cousequctly
important that old subscribers should renew
their subscription, and a good opportunity is

The March number of this sterling month
ly is, as usual, promptly before us, and fully
sustains its reputation. It has several particu
larly noteworthy papers. “The Preparation
of Laud for Cotton,” signed ‘dow Middling,”
which we believe is from the pen of General
Johnson Hagood, of Barnwell, contains some
most timely suggestions, backed up by the
necessary facts and figures. “’r], e Premium
Cotton crop,” and “A Method of Planting
and Cultivating Cotton,” are also worthy of
attention in the same connection, and are
timjely and to the point. Some hints on the
“Cultivation of the Castor Bean and Bene"
for oi., from the pen ofGen.E. P. Alexander
suggest another ineaus of diversifying our
industry. “Poultry Farming for the South,”
a beautifully illustrated article on the best
breeds of Fowls, will be interesting and profi
table to all who are fond of eggs and chickens
Articles on Sisal Hemp and the cultivation
oftho Banana commend thomselves particular
ly to floride readers. The Editor’s “Sug
gestive Facts” should set ourpeople to think
ing. We hope they will heed the warning
the article embodied—don’t neglect every
thing else to plant cotton. We arc glad to
see that the publishers have been fortunate
enough to secure contributions from that able
arehetect Alex. Y. Lee, of Columbia, one of
whose excellent designs appears in the pres
