In the Cherleeton Dnilj Republican, of the 7th
Mr. Whittsmokk gives in detail, an account of
nil the good things he has been doing for hia
ptopU. ,We looked in vain for some explanation of
the unfortunatewhich led tohispres-
cni 'discomfiture, but find that he makes not the
slightest attempt in that direction. His only ex
planation why the cadetship was net bestowed
upon some one within his own Congressional
Idstrict, is at once an insult ta the intelligence of
bis constituency. He is evidently under the im
pression that ho can balance with his good deeds
all the wrongs laid to his charge, and after all
be looked upon as a pretty good fellow on an av
erage. He accents heavily on having fed the
poor, clothed the naked and educated the ignorant.
Knowing that figures cannot lie, Mr. Wiiitte-
morc would have done more for his own re
putation by either remaining silent, or publishing
an account current of his receipts and expendi
tures made by him as agent of the different North
ern charitable and political societies. A correct
statement of that description would have clearly
shown to what extent his charities had reached
into his own purse, and how much of the milk of
human kindness he had spilt. It would not have
been amiss bad ho attached one or two exhibits
showing what he has done with the amouuts re
ceived from his own people for church building.
we owe the Devils a negro alter the r tilling
about four millions of them from ua, but
however, let us show them that we can throw
in a negro Congressman for good measure]
and at the same time make quite an improve
ment, on the imported Carpet Bagger or
Yankee Mulatto. Colored Brethren, bring
him out—in fatt, solid colon, ebony prefor-
ed—no more calico—a regular “Dandy Jim
of Caroline.”
We append the sensible remarks of the
Daily Nnn:
A COLORED MAN IN CONGRESS.
“In view of the approaching election to
till the vacancy occasioned by the disgrace
ful exit of carpet-bagger Whittemore, from
the National Legislature, the colored Repub
licans arc very naturally askiogthe question,
why it is that in South Carolina, the State
where the preponderance of the black voters
is largest, and where, in fact, the Republican
party would have no existence at all but for
the negroes, no United Stases office has yet
been given to a colored man- Parson Cain,
in one of his lucid intervals, calls attention
in the Missionary Record, of last week, to
the striking fact that out of the very large
number of fat Federal places in the gift of
the dominant party in this State, only one—
and that the most insignificant, the postinas-
ship of Columbia—has yet been vouchsafed
to a member of the race, which has given to
thrt party all the power, honesty and brains
which it can boast in the South.
The choice of a succession to Whittemore
will give the colored people a chance of pro
ving whether, at this iate day, they lack the
intelligence to comprehend, or the manhood
and in lepcudcuce to grasp what, in a party
sense, is indisputably their due. The Yan
kee p i* caO!! who volunteered to represent them
as well as the amounts received for his works of j 1( Congress, after selling to somebody from
TP
supererogation; is, marrying the married.
We observe from the tenor of tho remarks of
the editor of the Rcjntblican. that he does not feel
much sympathy for the gentleman; we here ap
pend them: —
MB. WHITTKMOES’S DE' ESSE.
“We publish in another column a communica
tion from Mr. 'WhiUcmore. We have already giv
en our riews on the questions at issue. We, of
course, feel that aa a simple matter of fair play
he ia entitled to the publication.”
Vet after all that has transpired in this matter,
we are only surprised that so much indignation
-. astonishment has been evinced.
As for ourselves, we arc candid when we say
tn»t our opinion of .Mr. Wiiittkmohk is nolaffcc-

, Ever since the Pariy to which ho belongs, had

the North, the cadetship which in cotuon de

out as a noble pize to the most proficient
among the colored youth of his district, has
been ignomiuiously driven from his seat, and
dcclarei by the unanimous voice of a Re
publican House, to be unworthy of the con
fidence and support of the people. And yet
this man sneaks back to tho State he has
disgraced, and, exulting in the ignorance of
those whom he has so foully wronged, de
clares in public that he will lyiepcl them to
send him back tc Washington, and so to en
dorse aud perpetuate the infamy which hi;
own party has so clearly fastened upon him.
Will tho colored Republicans of the First

This is to say. that we have had our Gins re
paired by Bourdine’s Gin Saw Gammer and find
it to be superior to the hand saw mode of sharpe
ning, it frees the saws from lint, especially when
ginning damp cotton, and adds greatly to the
sample aud facilitates the gin in feeding more iu
the same time over the hand file. It restores the
teeth to their original shape, making all alike, in
doing so it lengthens the tooth as much as it is
worn off at the point before needing repair again.
We would say it does all that it is claimed to do,

DISEASES OF THE BLOOD.
“The life of the flesh ia in the Blood,” ia a
Scriptural maxim that science proves to be true.
The people ta.k of bad blood, asdic cause pf
many diseases, and like many popular opinion*
this of bad blood is founded in truth.
The symptoms of bad blood ar? usually quite
plain—bad Digestion—cause imperfect nutrition,
aud consequently the circulation is feeble, the
soft tissues loose their tone and elasticity, and
the tongue becomes pale, broad, and frequently
covered with a pasty white coat- This conditiou
soon shows itself in roughness of the skin, then
in Eruptive and Ulcerative diseases, and when
long continued, results m serious lesions of the
Brain, Liver, Lungs, or urinary apparatus.—
Much, vory much, suffering is caused by impure
blood. It is estimated by some that one-fifth of
the human family are effected with scrofula in
some form.
When the Blood is pure, yen are not so liable
to any disease. Many impurit ies of the Blood
arise from impure diseases of larga cities. Era-
dicate every impurity from the fountain of life,
and good spirits, f ir skin and vital strength will
return to you.

Is a remedy of Wonderful Efficacy in tit
cure of diseases of the Kidneys and Bladder,
In these Affectum* it is as near a specific as
any remedy can he. It does its work kindly
silently. Th* relief which it affords is both .
certn in andpen ej t ide.
Diseases of the Kidneys & BLADDEP (
Persons unacquainted with the structure and
functions of the Kidneys cannot estimate tqojim*
portance of their healthy action. «
Regular and sufficient action of the Kidneys ia
as important, nay, even more so. than legnlarltj
of the bowels. The kidneys remove from the
Blood those effete matters which, if permitted to
remain, would speedily destroy life. A total sus
pension of the urinary discharges will occasxor
death from thirty-six to forty-eight hours.
When theUrinis voided in Gmail quantities
at the time, or when there is a dispo**ition t<
Urinate more frequently than natural, or when
the urine is high colored or scalding with weak
ness in the small of the back, it should not be
trifled with or delayed, but koskoo should be ta
ken at once to remedy the difficulty, before a le
sion of the organs take place. Most of the dis
eases of tho Bladder originate from those of ths
Kidneys, thc Urine being imperfectly sacreted in
thc Kidneys prove irritating to tho Bladder and
Urinary passages. When we recollect that medi-
cine never reaches the kidneys, except through
the general circulation ofthe Blood, we see how
necessary it is to keep thc Fountain of Life Purs.

DISEASES OF THE
Nervous System.
Almost nine-tenths of cur people suffer from
nervous exhaustion, and are, therefore, liable to
its concomitant e?ils of mental depression, con
fused id ‘as, softening of the brain, insanity, and
complete breaking down ofthe general health.
Thousands are suffering to-day with broken- down
nervous systems, and, unfortunately, tobacco*
alcohol, late hours, over-work, (mental ami phy
sical) arc causing diseases of thc nervous system
to increase at a fearful ratio.
Thc symtotns to which discuses ofthe nervous
system give rise, may be stated as follows : A
dull, heavy feeling in the head, sometimes more
or less severe pain or headache ; periodical head
aches, dizziness, noises or ringing in the head,
confusion of ideas temporary loss of memory;
dejection of spirits ; starting during sleep ; Bad
dreams, Hesitation in answering questions; Dul-
ness of heating : twitching of the face and at ins,
