They operate two band mills, the capacity of which is about 100,000 feet per day, about 40 per centf of which is cypress aud hardwoods, the rest being long leaf yellow pine, the most of the latter being consumed in North add South Carolina. Two improved Lidgerwood Sk eiders, at a oOBf of $10,000 00 each, no head of mules, and three loco motive engines with Hi cars, kept continually busy supply ing the mill with logs lln v have built a standard guuge -ailrokd far into the Pee Dee swamps, where they obtain in abundance some ot the linest cypress and hardwood timber that can be found anywhere m the State. Across the highland in the direction of Fioieuce, ex tends another railroad, about 15 miles in length, where they have a Lidgerwood skidder in operation, doing some very line work, under the management of Mr W A Kirby, who is gen eral forerfian of the pine legging department, MrO fi Singletary, of many years experience, being at tne dead of the cypress log ging. Tins company ha- recently purchased a log cable way. which is entirely new to the mill operatives in the South, it being used for the purpose of unloading and conveying the logs from the trains to the mill This machine is also a product of the Lidgerwood M’f’g. Co and is successfully operated by M r (ieorge Daniel. | The company own extensive timber lands in Darlington, Florence, Marlboro and Lee counties, and are continually adding to their already large holdings. They carry in the line of General Merchandise, about a $7,000.(>o stock, consisting of high class dry goods, shoot, notions, groceries and so forth. This department is under the management of Mr \\ (' kelly, who is known throughout this county for high type of char actor and pleasing manners. In and around the town is Dear farm, which consists of about loo acres.
