While the result has not been declared there are no contests for the ottlces named below and the figues will beyond question stand as they have been tabu lated. As will be seen below the total vote cast for governor was 66,036, of of which the Democratic nominee got 59,424 and the Melton liepublican can didate 4,432, against 2,780 for the Web- ater candidate. For the electorial ticket 68,(KtSvptcs were cast. The total vote for Republican electors of both factions was 8,313, while in the State election the nominee of both factions,- got only 7,212 votes. The Palmer- Buckner vote was ridiculously small- only K24 for the entire State, the bulk of it being in Charleston. But the figures are given below. Here is the electoral vote by counties, the vote far the first man on the Bryan, Palmer, Webster and Melton Republican tickets, respectively, being given: The Elkctoriai, Vote. Sir Andrew Clarke, while traveling in Italy, ascended a high tower one evening and found at the top another tourist, an Englishman. They chatted pleasantly for a few minutes, when .suddenly the strapger seized Sir Andrew by the shoulders and said quietly, “I am going to throw you over.” The man was a maniac. The physician had only a moment in which to gather his thoughts, but that moment saved nim. “Pooh,” he replied unconcern edly, “anybody can throw a man off the tower! If we were on the ground, you could not throw me up. That would be too difficult.” “Yes, I could,” retorted the maniac. “I could easily throw you up here from the ground. Let us go down, and I will do it.” The descent was accordingly made, during which Sir Andrew managed to secure help and release himself from his perilous situation.— San. Francisco Argonaut. W. K. Crosswell and J. L- I’arrott, of Bumter, called at the at torney general’s oflice yesterday in the interest of the new county of Salem, the election for which was held Wednesday. With 'b- m they brought the electi<’ returns rrmu which there seen s but little do i >i that the vote of ht rshaw has def al- ed the formation <>. th J ... vstlr ^ . They wished to bud out before whom they would have to protest against Kershaw's vote on account of its illegality, claiming that no regist ration or poll tax receipts were shown by the voters and that even the re gist rat ion booKs were not at the polls as required by law. They were in formed that the commissioners of election for Kershaw county were the proper persons to receive and act on tne protest. in speaking of the ma ter the gen tlemen said the voters took very s’iglit interest in the result, many of them not voting. In the proposed co inty there were 1,500 or 1,600 voter 8 and hut very little over half that number of votes were cast. It would he impossible to go ahead and form the county without that section of Kershaw that voted against It. This area was needed, not on account of its value, but for the territory. It was very similar to the section of Rich- A Valuable Prescription. Editor Morrison of Worthing ton, Ind„ Sun, writes: “You have a valuable prescription in Electric Bitters, and I can cheer fully recommend it for Consti pation and Sick Headache, and as a general system tonic it has no equal.” Mrs. Annie Stehle, 2625 Cottage Grove Ave., Chi cago, was all run down, could not eat nor digest food, had a backache which never left her and felt tired and weary, but six bottles of Elect r ic Bitters restored her health and renewed her strength.
