1 HE OLD AND THE NEW.
What The Editor of The Greenville
News Says of The Change.
[Greenville Nbws.]
A. G. Kollock is evidently
making a success of The DaR
lington News Mr Kollock is
a worthy successor of Henry T.
Thompson, the former editor of
The News, and we do not know
that we could pay him a higher
compliment.
As editor of the Cheraw Re-
pnrter Mr.Kollock established a
reputation as a strong, fearless
and candid writer. He is an
anti of the strongest kind and
has never wavered or hesitated.
He hits from the shoulder and
hits hard, but always fairly,
being one of those men who
lead, who arouse the enthusiasm
of their friends and demand the
admiration of their foes. He
is keeping The Darlington
News to the high standard his
predecessor established it on
and may be trusted to continue
it so. May unlimited success
aitend him. He deserves all
the good will and good fortune
he can possibly receive.
Old People.
Old people who need medicine
to regulate the bowels and kid
neys will find the true remedy
in Electric Bitters. This medi
cine does not stimulate and con
tains no whiskey nor other in
toxicant, but acts as a tonic and
alterative. It acts mildly on the
stomach and bowels, adding
strength and giving tone to the
organs, thereby aiding Nature
in the performance of the func
tions. Electric Bitters is an ex
cellent appetizer and aids diges
tion. Old pi ‘ ~ ‘
Judge Wstts Msrriss the Daughter ot
Chief Juttlce Mclver.
[Newe and Courier ]
Cheraw, April 16.—This af
ternoon at 5 o’clock Judge R. C.
Watts and Miss Lottie Mclver,
daughter of Chief Justice Me
Iver, wer^married by the Rev.
Thomas Perry Baker in St.
David’s Episcopal Church. The
building was beautifully decor
ated with evergreens and flow
ers. The blinds were drawn
and lamps lit. and the effect was
very pleasing. On the arrival
of the bridal party at the church
door - the organ poured forth
Mendelssohn’s Wedding March
under the skilful touch of Mrs.
S. G. Godfrey, and the ushers,
Col. Edward Mclver and Mes
srs. T. P. Parrall, L. E. Caston
and H. W. Harral, who had
already managed to comfortably
seat the crowd of relatives and
friends, advanced up the aisles,
followed by the maid of honor.
Miss Nell Hardin, who preceded
the bride, the latter being con
ducted to the altar by her fath
er, the Chief Justice. The
groo/n, supported by his oest
man, Mr. Ball, of Laurens, met
the bride at the chancel, and
the marriage Ceremony of the
Episcopal Church was perform-
Immediately alter the cere
mony the bridal party went to
the Seaboard Air Line depot,

train for an extended Northern
trip via Washington, Baltimore,

ter completing which they will
reside at the corner of Kershaw

It certainly “queers” one to
find such a sentiment as this in
the New York Mail and Ex-

[Barnwell People.]
There is is no accounting for
taste, or, for that matter, for
lack of taste. The Dabling-
ton News announces that Miss
Bettie Odelia Kirby formerly
of that place, aged 20 summers,
has married a Chinese cook in
Charleston, who for 48 winters
has answered to the name of
Wong Gin. Probably she is a
“new woman’, and has taken
the cue that will make her
housekeeping strictly celestial.
She deserves to fare better,
however, than the fifty white
men whose names are said to be
on the roll of the Republican
club m Darlington. As only
nine have openly professed coo
version, it is to be hoped that
this is another black crow story.
Some of the naughty nine were
old time Republicans.
A Remarkable Casa.
[Cheraw Reporter.)
Eight years ago A. A. Camp
bell gave his two sons, J. A.
and A. M. Campbell, who were
at that time 7 weeks of age to
one John L. Huggins. At this
time A. A. Campbell comes
forward and asks the law to
give back to him his two sons.
The case was heard Tuesday
before His Honor Judge Watts
After bearing the case, the
Judge decided that according
to law Campbell was entitled to
his sons. Notwithstanding the
verdict of the court the boys re
turned to the house of John L.
Huggins.

NOTICE.
B Y ORDER OF THE COUNTY
Board of Commissioners,
1 am instructed to say that un
der the plan for working the
roads the present year, all over
seers employed will be required
to open all the roads the proper
width. All persons who con
template planting their crops in
the road will please not do so,
as it will be quite unpleasant to
both the Commissioners and
overseers to destroy crops
so plantjed. The County Com
missioners cannot consistently,
and will not, approve the claims
of overseers for their services
as such until they have fully
complied with their contracts.
The main object of this notice is
to beg all persons planting by
the road to stake it. off and, if
possible, run a furrow along
where the road properly belongs
and then plough aud plant to
this line only, thus leaving the
road the proper width. We are
'lad to note that quite a num-
r of persons have already done
this.
The hauling or throwing of
trash, litter or any other ob
struction in the roadway is
strictly prohibited, under the
penalty of the law. Ditching
and clearing of ditches along
the roadside is approved of, and
the dirt taken from such ditches
may he thrown in the roadway,
provided it is leveled and put in
proper shape to improve the road
This muat be done as soon as it
is put in the roadway.
The telephone line running
from Darlington to Florence has
put quite a number of its posts
in the roadway—some of them
being at least eight feet out.
The company or persons operat
ing said line will please remove
said posts out of the road at once
and thereby save further trou
ble.
The County Board of Com
missioners has decided to work
the road this year in sections,
similar to plans worked bv rail
roads, making each Township
comprise one section, and all
E arsons liable to road duty who
ave not paid their commutatioi
tax will be worked first, and
then a gang will be employed to
complete the necessary work.
All persons who have not paid
their road tax will be required
to 'Vork three days of eight
hours each during the year un
der the overseers above men
tioned.
