NEWS. FROM ALL SECTIONS AS TOLD BY OUR CORRESPONDENTS. GREEN PLAINS. Crops have been damaged, and gathering delayed by the recent storms. Mr. W. D. Young has measur ed forty-eight bushels of corn from one acre: who can beat that? Black Creek was so high after the recent heavy rains that no cotton from our section could reach the market. Mr. C. E. Huggins has pur chased a new outfit for making molasses, and promises to cut prices this season. There will be no preaching at Antioch next Sunday, as Rev. F. M. Satterwhite will preach at the Darlington Church on that day. Mr. W. T. Boswell, formerly of Green Plains, but now of Florida, was married recently to Miss Josepbine Bibley, of Hildreth, Fla. The Anti-Tillman Democrats are requested to meet at the Cold Water School House on Saturday, 20th. inst, at 3 o’clock, to attend to important business. A full attendance is desired. The rice crop is the largest ever produced in this section. We are informed that Mr. W. A. Carrigan, of Society Hill, has purchased improved machinery for cleaning rice : this will be of great benefit to the farmers. We would respectfully call the attention of the School Com missioner and the trustees of this township to the fact that the county is likely to lose some valuable property at this place if the matter is not looked after. We had a light frost Monday morning. The pea crop is almost a fail ure in this section Mr. J. R. Jowers is buying cotton at St. Charles. Miss Mamie Reynolds has gone to Sumter, where she will attend the Catholic school Major G. W. Young has re turned to Shelby; he will not buy cotton here this season. Mr. James L. Mann returned last week atter visiting relatives in the northern part of the state. The young ladies of the Bap tist Church gave an oyster sup per recently for the benefit of the church building; quite handsome sum was realized, al though many were prevented from attending on account of the high waters of Lynche’s River and Lake Swamp. Several cases of chill and fev er have been reported. A number of our young men contemplate attending the Sum ter Carnival. The recent rains are said to be the hardest that have been known here for forty-nine years. Pee Dee has been on a boom: lacked only a few inches of reaching the highest water mark. Capt. W. A. Carrigan was thrown from a mule a few days ago: he was painfully, but not seriously hurt. The friends of Mr. A. M. Cok er are glad to know that he is steadily improving. We hope soon to have him among us again. JASPER. Mr. John H. Ham lost a fine horse last Saturday night. We had frost two mornings this week, though it has done very little injury. The farmers are doing all they can to get through harvesting the fruits of their labors. Elim Union will convene at Lake Swamp Baptist church on the Friday before the fifth Sun day in December.
