A MILITARY RECEPTION.
Supreme Lodge which will meet
in Washington in May, 18!i4.
His election was secured over!
of Sum
ter, by a vote of 114 to ‘.4. This
is the highest Pythian office in
. the State, but, while the com
pliment is great, Gen. James 1
fully deserves the honor, for,
besides being a worthy citizen,
he is an enthusiastic and devot
ed Knight. Mr. J. H. Thayer,
of Charleston, was elected Grand
Chancellor.
THE WORK OF CHARITY.
The Friends of the Darlington Guards
Honor the Bovs for Their Victory.
The friends of the Guards in
Darlington, and their name is
legion, are so elated over the
success of the company in win
ning the championship of the
State in Columbia last week
that they propose to give the
boys a big reception—the grand

The Success of the Flower Mission—
The Last Meeting of the Season.
The flower mission has decid
ed that, owing to thehot weath
er, the meeting on Tuesday just
past shall be the last for the
season. The mission will reor
ganize in the fa) land hopes then
to carry out its project of an
afternoon tea. The meeting on
Tuesday was the most success
ful of all; over fifty bunches of
flowers were distributed among
the people at the factory. En
couragement has met the mis
sion on all sides; its work is not
one of sentiment, but has bprne
most practical results. While
distributing the flowers through
out the town the ladies found
many cases of need which they
were able to relieve by individ
ual efforts without calling on
the general public for assist
ance. Many of the sick and
needy have had cause to bless
the mission. The ladies wish
particularly to thank, through
the columns of this paper, Mrs.
G. W Dargan, Mrs. C. B. Ed
wards and the Misses Cogge-
shall who kindly lent theii bug
gies for use in the distribution
of the flowers.

Editor Darlington News:
In behalf of the teachers and
pupils of St. John’s School, I
thank the ladies of the Horti

helped them in the recent Floral

much toward relieving a greater
need than perhaps any of the
donors can appreciate.

"Any Port in a Storm."
That’s a good maxim, but it
will not work as a rule in the
purchase of a remedy fo? Rheu
matism. Any of the cheap nos
trums will not effect a cure—in
fact, none of them. Don’t trifle
with life and prolong agony.
Get Dr. Drummond’s Lightning
Remedy, and a speedy cure is
certain. It costs $5 a bottle,
but one bottle is worth a hun
dred of anything else, and for
that reason it is the cheapest
when a cure is wanted. Sent to
