The following we take from a Jacksonville, Fla., paper of the 5 inst: “The unusual ceremony of a church wedding with holy com munion was celebrated at 10 o’clock this morning at St. Johns Episcopal church by Rev. V. W. Shield, the rector, as sisted by Rev. R. H. Weller, who united for life Miss Mamie Tucker, the lovely daughter, of Capt. W. W. Tucker, the niece of I)r. A. S. Baldwin, of this ci ty, to Rev. Edward McCrady, cf Charleston, S. C. The bridal couple were attended by Miss Edna Baldwin who gracefully filled the position of maid of honor and Misses Sallie and Estelle Ledwith, Miss May Wil Hams of Jacksonville, and Miss Jeffries, of Fernandina. The best man was Mr. E. C. John son, of South Carolina, and the groomsmen were Messrs. S. P. Holmes, Thomas A. Ledwith, B. B. MacDoll and Charley Tucker. The bride was given away by hex father. After the wedding ceremony, which was beautiful and impressive, the holy communion being admin istered to the entire bridal par ty, Mr. and Mrs. McCrady, at tended by a few intimate friends, repaired to the Baldwin resi dence where an informal recep tion was held. Mr. and Mrs. McCrady left on the 10 o’clock train for a honeymoon trip North. They will reside in fu ture at Darlington, S. C., where the groom officiates as minister of an Episcopal church. The bride’s costume was an exqui site d ess of white faille, with orange blossoms, and the wear er looked very sweet and at tractive. The bride is greatly admired by all who know her for her gentleness and woman liness. The maid of honor and the brides maids were all attir ed in white mull, over white silk, with white leghorn hats trimmed with white carnations and looked very attractive.” HYPNOPTIC EXPERIMENTS. An Entertaining Exhibition of thin Most Wonderful Art. A very large audience gather ed at the opera house on Mon day night to witness the experi ments of Mr. L. I. Parrott in hypnotism. In order to be hyp notized one must be willing and must concentrate one’s mind. Mr. Parrott tried several sub jects without succeeding in get ting them under the hypnotic influence, but this was due to t le violation on the part of the subjects of one or the other of the conditions of mjnd mention ed as necesary and not to any fault on the part of Mr. Parrott. He succeeded however in put- t ng two persons completely un der the hypnotic influence, Mr. Eugene Harrell and a little boy, Eddie McNalty. It would take several columns to relate all thethings Mr. Parrott made these subjects do while under the influence. Their minds seemed to be perfectly blank ; thoughts and ideas were formed for them by Mr. Par rott ; for instance one ate an Irish potato, but believed it to be an apple and enjoyed it as such. They wereutterly devoid of feel ing ; Mr. Parrott would stick them with pins and they would not flinch. He even put them to s eep. The ridiculous things they were made to do kept the audi ence in a continual roar, but the audience was not only amused but was astonished at the won derful powers of hypnotism. The experiments are well worth seeing. The entertainment was given for the benefit of the library of St. John’s school and $s7.65was cleared. They came bad together and landed at Chisolm’s causeway. On his person were found a gold watch and chain, a seal ring, diamond pin, gold cuff but tons, bunch of keys, cigar case, card case full of railroad passes, handkerchief, se\ eral letters and $3.27 in cash. His clothing whsj all intact, andth ; body wonder fully well preserved; consider ing that it had been in the wa ter eight days. Capt. C. H. Rivers, the coroner, turned over ! the body to Mr J. M.Connelley. The reward of fifty dollars was paid to Middleton on the spot. THE MERRY SOCIABLE The Young People Enjoy a Most Pleas ant Evening at Linwood. Mr. J. F. Garner’s residence at Linwood, in Philadelphia township, was the scene of a happy gathering of young peo ple on Friday ni ght. It was a gathering for pleasure, and the large number pn sent thorough ly enjoyed it. Two Negro Chil dren Near c lorence. [Florence Messei ger, April 14.] On Wednesday last Hannah Harllee, a colore l woman living on the plantation of Mr. M. S. Haynesworth, a rout four miles from Florence, shut her two lit tle children in the house and went out to work. Shortly af terwards she noticed a cloud of smoke rising from the house and hurried to the scene. But it was too late. When she got there the house was wrapped in flames and both ‘.he children— iged respectively 3 and 5 years —were burned into cracklings. Coroner Burch held an inquest over the remains yesterday, and the jury rendered a verdict in accordance with the above facts. REMEMBER THE CLERKS. building. EXECUTIVE CLEMENCY. The Governor Pardons a Convict from Darlington County. Jonas Kervin, colored, was pardoned by Governor Tillman on Saturday. Kervin was con victed last fall by the court i f Darlington county' for assault and battery with intent to kill. He was sentenced by Judge Witherspoon to nine months in the penitentiary. The assault was committed upon the person of Calvin Strother, also colored, the affair occurring in the low er part of the county. Kervin is a man of very good repute and we understand a strong petition was sent to the Gover nor asking for his pardon, which was probably granted in response to the petition. His term would have expired in June.
