A railroad in the Argentine
Republic has one Ktretch of
two hundred and eleven miles
without a curve or bridge.
Ex-Senator Reagan, of Texas,
a hard-headed, practical man of
the world, got it from an old
darky that it would bring him
ill-fortune to put on hisleftshoe
first, and never once in all the
years that have sued has he
failed to give the right foot pre
cedence.
On Thursday night two broth
ers and a son of Robert Sims, an
illicit distiller who had been ar
rested, fired at Sims’ guard at
Bladon Springs, Alabama. Their
firing wounded the guard ami
killed a bystander. Two of the
Sims were then killed and the
third wounded. The wounded
man and the prisoner escaped.
The government of Quebec,
Canada, has discovered that a
large number of men employed
in its service, some of whom
hold very prominent positions,
have been carrying on a scheme
whereby the government was
defrauded of large sums of
money. The government pro
poses to bring suit against the
rogues.

They had quarrelled about five

An express train was held up
by three masked men, at Collins
Station, near Macon Georgia,
on Thursday night last, and the
express car was robbed of about
$30,000.
This week in Iowa the
thermometer dropped from 90°
in the shade to 35° in less than
twenty-four hours. There was
a heavy frost at the same time
in Wisconsin.
Charles Hawkins, a noted des
perado, shot and fatally wound
