bales of cotton last week. They
were stolen by unknown par
ties.
Mr. C. D. Evans is again
able to be at his post, after
quite a severe spell of sick-1
ness.
Rev. G. R. Whitaker, of the
South Carolina Conferenee, will
fill the appointment at Clyde
for the next year, and not Rev.
D. Durant, as has been re
ported.
Invitations have been issued
for the marriage of Capt. W.
E. Lucas, formerly of this
county, but now of Spartan
burg, and Miss Cora Cox, of
Nafdiville, Tennessee, which
will take place in the latter
city this evening.
The Washington correspon
dent of the Newtt and Courier
says, on the 10th inst., “Repre
sentative Dargan visited the
postoffice department to-day,
and induced the Postmaster
General to issue an order sus*
pending action upon the cases
of Postmasters Porter and
Beatty, at Conway and Bucks-
ville respectively, in Horry
county. These officials were
marked for slaughter within a
few days.”

He Made a “Clean Sweep.”

Last night Mr. N. S. Gibson,
of Gibson, S. C., was robbed at
the Planters’ Hotel. He was
on his way to Wilmington and
expected to leave on the 5:20
train this morning. The thief
entered his room at the hotel by
raising a window. He cap
tured $45 in money, a gold
watch, a suit of clothes ami Mr. |
Gibson’s ticket to Wilmington.
The theft was not discovered
until Mr. Gibson arose this j
morning to prepare for bis jour-
ney, when he found himself |
minus the necessary wearing i
apparel. The thief has not
been captured yet.
