Every one should read and digest it and act upon its advice. Reports come from the southwestern portion of the county that a light snow fell in that section yesterday morning just before day. Charlie Mixon, colored, who killed John White, also colored, near Newman Swamp Church, last week, has not vet been cap tured. He has fled to parts un known. Martin, the efficient auditor of the Charleston, Sumter and Northern Railroad, has been made General Man ager of the road, vice Col. I. W. Fowler resigned. Mb. W. J Fountain and his son, Mr. John Fountain, of An son County, North Carolina, were on a visit to Darlington last week. They are former residents of this place and re ceived a hearty welcome. Mr. I. Sulabacher desires his friends to know that his goods escaped the Are. It waa a nar row escape, but he saved every thing and is ready to furnish his customers with holiday goods. Florence is to have another bank to be named the Bank of the Carolinas. The corporators are John P. Coffin, of Florence, and C. P. Painter, of Kansas Citv, Missouri. The capital stock will be $20,000. The domino party to have been given last night, was post poned until Monday night next. The gentlemen who have been invited will be furnished tickets for admission by calling on Mr. Bright Williamson, chairman of the committee. On the night of the 6th inst. the up passenger train on the Cheraw and Darlington Rail road ran over and killed a negro near Society Hill. He was em ployed at the water tank at that place. Mb. J. A. Blackwell, of Blackwell Bros., has removed, with his family, to Cades’ De pot, Williamsburg County, where he will look after his farm. He still retains an inter est in his store at this place. It should be remembered that the Ladies Industrial Society of the Baptist Church will give one of their delightful entertain ments at the residence of Hon. George W. Dargan tomorrow evening. Ample preparations have been made to insure the success of the entertainment. Oysters will also be served. Mb. George Webb intends to retire from business and for this purpose he advertises in fhis issue his restaurant for sale. He wishes to retire April 1st, next, but is willing to sell any time before then. The business is a good one and an energetic man can find a lucra tive trade awaiting him here. Who-ever the purchaser may be, we trust that he will be as effi cient and obliging as Mr. Webb. The Atlantic Coast Line sys tem, on hearing of our disas trous fire, came forward imme diately with a noble offer of aid. They will contribute to the suf ferers twenty-five per cent, of their proportion of freight money on all articles shipped over their system for the pur pose of rebuilding the burnt district. Da. Mr. Johnnie James, a son of Mr. Samuel James, who lives in High Hill township, met with a very sad death on Friday night last. He was going home in the afternoon from Darlington, in company with his father and a colored'boy, named July Johnson, in a wagon drawn by a mule. When near Stern berger’s old store, in the neigh borhood of Dr. A. .C. Spain’s place, the mule became fright ened and ran away. Young James was thrown out and the wheel of the wagon rolled over his body, fracturing three ribs. His injuries at first did not seem to be of a fatal nature, but after a few hours, ho sud denly took a bad turn and died before any doctor reached him. He was about 20 years old.
