Mr. Harrold Burch is clerking n Edwards, Norment & Go’s. Mrssrs. McCullough, Black- well & Co., had the misfortune to lose two very valuable mules on Friday last. Mr. Eugene James, of Hamp ton, Georgia, has been in town on a visit to his brother Mr. J. M. James. The stockholdersjof the Dar lington Agricultural and Me chanical Fair Company will hold a very important meeting on Tuesday next. Prof. C. A. Seabrook, for merly of this county, but now of Columbia, has been elected Secretary of the Richland County Teachers Association. The State t Senate has con firmed the appointment of R. M. Josey as trial justice at Lydia. The appointment was made by Governor Richardson during the last recess. Champion Ardis, colored, a carpenter by trade, has been lodged in jail, in default of $300 bond, on the charge of having stolen a road cart on last Sales- day and disposing of it. He will await trial at the next term of the Circuit Court. At the recent meeting of the State Bar Association held in Columbia, Geo. W. Brown, Esq., was elected a member of the General Council for the Fourth Judicial District and 0. S. Nettles, Esq., a member of the Local Council for the same circuit. The popular comedy cam- pany, “Larking” gave a per formance at the Opera House on Wednesday night of week. The News (ind Courier, of Thursday last, says : “The committee (of the South Carolina House of Representa tives) appointed to examine the books and accounts of the State Treasurer, made an elaborate report, in which they testify in highly complimentary terms to the accurate manner in which the office has been conducted.” It is quite gratifying to ex-Trea- surer E.
