Owing to the indisposition of Rev, G. R Moore no services were held in the Baptist Church on Sunday last. The Baptist State Convention moats at Union to-day. Rev. G. B. Moons pastor of the Bap tist Church at this place, ex pects to attend. A petition has been forward ed to the legislature praying that the saie of intoxicating liquors in the town of Timmons- ville be prohibited by statute. Timmonsville lots, within the corporate limits but beyond rpo the built up portion of thetown, were sold on Saturday at the rate of $400 per acre. Gen. W. E. James requests that all the managers and clerko of State elections call at Blackwell Bros’ store and re ceive comi>ensation for their services. The Larking Comedy Com pany, which gave the people of Dariington so good an entertain ment last year, appeared again at the Opera House last even ing. Six or eight covered wagons were in Darlington on Monday. A party of “tar heels’’ brought them down from North Carolina loaded with commodities which were traded off in town. Mr. C. D. Evans has been quite sick for the past few days but is now much better. Mr. John McCall is assisting at the express office during Mr. Evans’ indisposition. Mr. L. L. Martin, of Phila- adelphia, the newly appointed book-keeper for the Central Carolina Land and Improvement Co.,has arrived and has com menced work. A large and very successful entertainment was given on Thanksgivings evening at the residence of Mrs. E. A. Rollins at Timmonsville. Among the visitors present several were from Darlington. The track of the C. S. & N. road between Sumter and Dar lington is beings laid at the rate of four miles a week, and the work will probably be complet ed to this place by Dec. 10. The contract for erecting the building of the new bank of Timmonsville has been awarded to Mr. S. Bounds, of Florence. The building will probably be completed by Jan uary 1. At the meeting of St. David's Lodge A. F. M. held on Novem ber 20, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year : W. E. James, W. M.: J. L. Michie, S. W., A. F. North- cutt J. W., W. A. Parrott, sec retary ; H McHodge, treasurer. Mr. A. B. Haynie of Carters- ville, S. C., and Miss Maggie J. Holmes of North Carolina, were united in wedlock in the parlors of the Peel Hotel at Cartersville on November 23, Rev. W. B. Duncan officiating. The bride is a niece of Mrs. Peel, of the well- known Peel House. J. M. L. Lever, a colored man living near Lydia, had the mis fortune to lose his barn and the entire contents of corn and fodder by fire a few days since. This is a severe loss to him and any assistance given him by the people will be gratefully re ceived. Several of the Darlington lawyers will attend the annual meeting of the State Bar As sociation in Columbia to-night, when Hon. E. J. Phelps, of Vermont, Minister -to England during Cleveland’s adminis tration, will deliver an address. The Secretary of State on Monday issued a commission to Messrs. W. F. Dargan and C. B. Edwards, of Dariington, and T . N. Cox, of Washington, as incorporators of the Darlington, Light, Water and Power Com pany, the capital stock to be $25,000 in 500 shares at $50each. Arch Goodale, whtye, *who was lodged in jail a short time since on the charge of having burned the residence of Mrs. Hall, near the Chesterfield line, was released from custody by Judge Sanders on Tuesday.
