There is no drug in such general use

all cases requiring a tonic. Doses cf

ringing or buzzing in the ears, a feeling
of tightness in the head, deafness more
or less complete, muscular weakness
and a staggering gait.
But all persons are not alike suscep
tible to the drug. Men bear it better
than women and the strong am! robust

Under certain unhealthy conditions
largo doses are capable of causing
blindness which is apt to last for weeks
and even months. As a remedy for
chills and fever it is the remedy above
all others, not only as a preventive
but as a cure. In some kinds of fever
its cCect is very striking, and most so
in sudden attacks.
There are a number of other afflic
tions in which quinine is very effective,
but it must lie carefully administered
or very serious results may be the out
come. If one thinks he needs it for
its tonic effect he should not take more
than one grain three times a day on
his own responsibility. If a cold is
coming on let him take ten grains on
going to bed cither in one dose or in
two doses about two hours apart.
These are about the only conditions on
which lie is justified in using the drug
on his own responsibility, and if he
uses it as advised it is not at ail likely to
