Carolina Green, who was
convicted last week of stealing
clothing from Tombacher’s
store, and sentenced to pay a
fine of or go to jail for fifteen
days, paid up the fine after an
imprisonment of a day or two,
and was released.

Mr. William Parnell, of Cypress,
had lost one of his eyes is a mis
take. The injury which he re
ceived from the whip-lash was
very slight, and Mr. Parnell is

W. Dargan, the popular ticket
agent of the Atlantic Coast
Line, was chosen warden of the
town to fill the vacancy caused
by the death of the lamented
Sidney Jacobi.
The Governor has pardoned
"Green Burch, the old colored
man in whose behalf Capt. J. C
Blackwell has recently been us
* ing his influence. Burch was
sentenced to 25 years in the
penitentiary, in 1878, for burn

columns, Messrs. J. I). Shaw,
Robert E. Carnes and Geo. Scar
borough were taken before a
United States Commissoner at
Columbia last week and tried
under a charge of having inter
fered with the late colored post- j

missioner found that the pro-
sedition had failed to make out
its case, and the defindants were
discharged from custody.

ept. 30 shows that there were
203 letters registered during
that period. Tne amount taken
in for money orders during the
week ending Sept. 30 was $1,-
103.93, while the receipts from
the sale of postal notes during
the same period were $92.62. A;
moment’s reflection on these
points will show that the busi
ness of the office must be enor
mous compared with what it
was a year or two ago.

McA. Pittman has just closed
a series of meetings at Mt. Zion
Church, assisted by his father.
People were pleased with Rev.
Pittman, Sr.’s, earnest, per
suasive and eloquent sermons.'
As to Rev. A. McA., to know
him is to admire him. He fully
comes up to the requirements of
pastor, friend, neighbor and citi
zen. We never knew until he
came in our midst that farming
