He reported that the work on the line from Bennettsville to Sumter is progressing very satis factorily. The contract for grading the line betw r een those points has been awarded to Pringle & Co. who represent the firm of Prin gle, McLane & Co. The con tract for the trestle work from the Pee Dee River to Sumter has ; been awarded to Walton & Rob inson, and for that from the Pee Dee River to Bennettsville to Williams & Tinley. The con struction of the bridge over the Pee Dee River is in charge of the Phoenix Iron Works, of Pennsyl vania. Twenty-one miles of the road bed has already been com pleted. The entire line, between Sumter and Bennettsville, a dis tance of 022 miles, will be gra ded very soon. The line from Sumter to Dar lington, Mr. Rollins said, would j he completed by the first of Sep- 1 temher, and the road between ! Darlington and Bennettsville would he fiinished by the first of November. The entire road j from Pregnall’s to Bennettsville would be in operation by the first of January, 1891. The authorities of the Char leston, Sumter aud Northern Road have decided to locate sta tions at the following points: One between Sumter and Dar lington, tojbe called Lamar ;one near Lvncnes River; one be tween Swimming Pensand Sum ter, and one at Darlington. The stations at Lamar, Darlington and Bennettsville will be bunt of brick. Everything is under good headway and at the present time the road is doing a good business. D. 8. C. R.
