Dawson was a member of the Na
tional Democratic Executive Com
mittee, aud while be would never
accept an office of emolument, lie

Those two enormous boles still
cover tbe side-walk near the En-
terpHae Grocery. Many ot the
services at the Episcopal Chapel
take place at night, and it ia by no
means an unoommon thing for
strangers from the hotel to attend

go by that street, without being
aware of the terrible danger wbieb
confronts them. It is only a ques
tion ot time before some one will

▲ Shocking Tragedy.
At half pest eleven o’clock on
Tnesday night. The Dablington
News reoeivea a special telegram
conveying the startling intelligence
that Gapt. F. W. Dawson, editor
of tbe Aewt and Courier, had been
•hot and killed at toor o’clock that
afternoon by Dr. T. B. MeDow, a
practising physician oi Charleston.
It seems that Gapt. Dawson had
gene to MeDow’s office to see him
about his conduct towards a young
foreign woman who was in Gapt.
Bntrnen’s employ and noder his
proteothm. He never came out of
the office alive. There were no
witnesses to the tragedy, so Mo-
Dow’s testimony ia all we have.
He says that they became involved
in a quarrel; that Dawson siiuck

jail kitchen, and iu danger of being

suitable place for the safe keepiug
of these recoids. The County Au
ditor has also called our attention
to the fact that some ot ihe Trial
Justices in aud fo r this County,
have uegiected o file their month
ly repoits with him, as required by
Sec. 802, of the General Statutes.
We recommend that the attention
of all Trial Justice*, for the Couus
ty, hi* called to this Seclipn of the
General Statutes.
We find, that owing to tbe heavy
rains daring the past month, all of
the public roads are in a bad con
dition, the bridges needing atten
tion more or less, aud especially
tbe causeway’ leading to Dubose’s
Bridge, on Lynches River.
Oi r attention has beeu called to
the fact that travel over the public
highway betweeu the Towns ot
Darliugtou and Timmoiioville, is at
times seriously oustructed by the
freight cars ot tbe G. & D. R. R.
Co.; that cats being allowed to re*
main oq the said highway lor sev*
eral hours, during which time it is
impossible for any oue to croas tbe
railroad at this point. We recom
mend that this obstruction be abat
ed as a nuisance.
We have appointed a committee,

F. Gandy who will in the interval
