Ordinance 3. Sec 1. Be it further
oruaiued. that the license fees shall
be as follows: For retailing spirit
ons or malt liquors, wino or cider,
or intoxicating drinks of any kind,
except on days prohibited by Coun
cil, 8150.
Seo. 8 For each peddler or itin
erant dealer of any kind, except as
hereinafter specified, 81 per day,
or 850 for the year. For each non
resident or tranbient dealer in bug
gies, carriages or wagons 810.
Sec. 3 For each drover or deal
er in stock, 85 per drove or 810 per
year.
SEC. 4. That any penton or per
sons acting as auctioneer within
the limits of the Town, for the sale
of property of any description, on
the Street or other wise, shall pay a
license of 84 00 per. mom h or 810.00
per year.

Ordinance 4. Be furt her or. ain
ed,that all licenses granted by the
authority of the Town Council shall
date from the day on which the li
cense fee is paid, and unless other
wise specified, shall expire on the
31st day of December, 1888, and no
deduction shall be allowed on ac
count of the shortness of the period
which the license may o.ver. Any
person or person who shall pursue
or attempt to pursue any business
or avocation for which a license is
required as aforesaid, without hav
ing first obtained a license for the
same, shall be punished by a tine of
not less than 810, or by imprison
ment not exceeding 30 days, or both
at the discretion ot ihe Council. No
transfer of any license granted as
herein provided, shall be allowed or
recognized.
MARKET REGULATIONS AND
FEES.
Ordinance 5. Be it further or
dered and ordained, That any per
aon or persons who shall expose for
sale any fresh beef, mat ton or pork
in the tow n of Darlington, except in
the market, or shall weigh the same
for sale on any other than the town
scales provided for that purpose,
shall be pauisbed by a fine of not
less than one dolla r , or by impris
onment not exceeding ten days.
Ordinance 6. Sec. 1. The fees to
becollectedby theclerk from persons
exposing butcher’s meat tor sale in
the town market other than those
who rent stalls hall be os follows
On each boef 82.
On each hog or pig... .50cents.
On each sheep lamb or kid 50 cts.
Sec. 2. To any person or persons
regularity dealing in fish shall ex
hibit the same for sale in the mar
ket, or in the market quare, aud
shall be required to pay a license of
81 per day, or 85 per year.
Sec. 3 And any person or per
sons who shall use an y stall or stalls
in the market as herein provided
shall scrape and thoroughly clean
ths same immediately after using
the same, and shall also remove al
offal, and all straw, brush, branches
or litter, brought or deposited by
snob person or persons in or about
said market, and in default thereof
such person or persons shall be
pnnished by a fine not less than
one dollar, or by imprisonment not
exceeding 30 days.
CONCERNING THE TRAFFIC
IN LIQUORS AND GAMING.
Ordinance?. Be it further ordain
ed, That any liqnor dealer who
•hall sell or give or barter any in
toxicating drinks to inebriates, at
ter having been n-qnested not to
do so by the family of said inebriate
or by any member of said family,
shall be subject to a fine of not less
than twenty dollars, or in default
of payment thereof, the license to
■aid liqnor dealer shall be revoked.
Ordinance 8. Be it farther or
dained, That any person or persons
who shall,(on the Sabbath day, sell,
barter, or otherwise dispose of any
spirituous or malt liquors or intox
icating drinks of any kind, shall be
pnnisbed by a fine of not less than
ten doilars, or by imprisonment not
exceeding thirty days.
Ordinance 9. Be it further or
dained, That whenever any riot or
row, or fight, or other disturbance
or breach of the peace shall occur
at any drinking saloon, or other
place where intoxicating liquors are
sold, the proprietor or keeper ol
such saloon or place, shall be deem
ed and taken to be an aider aud
abettor in such riot, row, fight or
other disturbance or breach of the
peace, and shall be pauisbed by a
fi e ot not less than ton dollars, or
by imprisonment not exce ding 30
days, unless such person can show
that such riot, row, fight or other
disturbance or breach of the peace
was not caused by the persons eu-
gagi d therein becoming intoxica
ted on said premises.
Ordinancb 10 Be it further or-
daiued, that it shall be unlawful for
any person or perso is to engage in
auygameof chance for money, with
in the town limits, and any person
or pei s.ius violating this ordinance
shall be punished by a fine of not
less than ten dollars, or by impris
onment not exceeding 30 days.
SANITARY REGULATIONS.
BOARD OF HEALTH.
Ordinance 11. Beit further or
daiued, That any person oi persons
who shall butcher, or ptepare tor
market, any animal, or dry the
hides of animals within tne cor
porate limits ol the Un'ii, shall be
punished by a fine of not Iras than
ten dollars, or by impri^oumeut not
exceeding 30 days, or both at the
discretion of the Council.
Ordinance 12 Be it further or
daiued, that any person or persons
who shall allow or permit any dead
carcass to remain in any lot or field
within the limits of the town, to
them belonging, used or coutro led,
longer than twenty-four hours,
shall be punished by a line not less
than one dollar, or by imptisoti-
meut not exceeding 30 days,
Ordinance 13. Be it further or
daiued, that any person or persons
who shall obstruct in any wa^ the
drains or water courses or ditches
iu the towu, or throw paper, rags,
garbage, or any other refuse m tier
n the streets or in the public square
or on or about the banks of Swift
Creek, shall be punished by a fine
of not less than fivedollais, or by
imprisonment for not more than 30
da^s, or both at the discretion ol
the Council.
Ordinance 14. Be it further or
daiued, That any person or persons
who shall hinder, prevent or ob
struct in any way or manner the
Board of Health appointed by
Council, or any member of said
Board, or any person or persons
acting under the authority of said
Board, iu the iuspecutu of any
iremises within the town limits, or
iu the abatement or removal of any
nuisance endangering the pubic
health, or iu the discharge of auy
duties pr. scribed by Council for the
said Board of Dealih, such persou
or persons shall be punished by a
fine of not more tbau one hundred
dollars, or by imprisonment uotex-
ceediug 30 days tor each offeiice.
Ordinance 15. Be it further or
dained, That any person or persons
who shall r.duseor neglect to abate
or remove any nuisance, or any
matter or thing likely to endanger
the public health, when so required
or directed by the said Board of
Health, or by the Mayor or acting
Mayor, such persou or persona shall
be punished by a fine of not less
than tou dollars, or by imprison
ment not exceeding 30 days for
each offense.
CONCERNING OFFENCES
AGAINST THE PUBLIC PEACE
AND DECENCY.
Ordinance 16. Be it further or-
daiued, That any person or per
sous who shall iu anywise break
the peace or disturb the quiet of
the tow n or public ear, by obscene
or offensive language, boisterous
bolloiug or singing, or by any rio
tous or evil conduct shall be pun
ished for each offence by a flue ot
not less than one dollar, or impri
sonment not exceeding 30 days, or
both.
Ordinance 17. Be it further or
daiued, That auy persou found iu
the streets or pnblio square iu a
drunken coudition, shall be punish
ed by a fine of net less than one
dollar, or by imprisoumeut not
exceeding five days.
Ordinance 18. Be it further or
dained, That any person or persons
who shall make auy indecent» xpo-
sure on the streets or public square
ot the towu shall be punished by a
fine of not less than one dollar, or
by imprisonment not exceeding
thirty days.
Ordinance 19. Be It further or
dained, That any person who shall
be seen bathing iu Swift Creek, iu
sight of the pablic street or road,
shuil be punished by s fine of not
less than one dollar, or by imprison
ment not exceeding 30 days.
Ordinance 20. Be it further or
dained, That any person or persons
committing auy offence against the
town, who shall escape-beyond the
corporate limits, without arrest aud
trial, shall be arrested and tried at
any time they may be found within
said corpoiate limits.
STREET REGULATIONS.
Ordinance 21. Be n further or
dained, That all male persons be
tween the ages of 18 and 50 years,
liable to road duty, shall work on
the streets ol the town eight days
during the year, or be punished by
s fine of two dollars, or by impris
onment notexeee< iug 10 days.
Ordinancb 22. Be it further or
dained, That any persou or persons
who shall obstruct any public street
or aide walk in the towu witbom
permission from the Couueil, shall

each day tke obstruction is allowed
to remain.
Ordinance 23. Be it furt er or
dered aud ordained, That it shall
not be lawful for anv person or per
sons to erect any table or stand iu

Market square, for the purpose of
exposing any com-nudity for sale,
ot for any other purpose, except
by exptess permission from the
Council. Any one violating this
ordinance shall be required to pay
a hue of uot less th m 81 or two
days imprisoumeut.
Ordinance 24. Be it forther r-
daiued, That any person or persons
who shall obstruct any street with
a buggy or buggies, carts or wag
ons, and who refuse to remove said
obstru'-tion after being requested
to do so by any Marshal shall be
punished by a flue of not less than
81. or imprisonment not more th m
days.
Ordinance 25. Be it further or
dained, That any persou or persons
who shall in auy way deface or ii:<
jure auy oi the public lamp posts,
or shade trees in tbe towu, shall be
punished by a fine of not 'ess than
one dollar, or bv imprisonment not

Ordinance 26. Be it further or
dained, That any person or persons
who shall drive, ride or lead auy

hicle of any kind, upon fhe side
walks of the town shall be punish

Ordinance 27. Be it further oi-

Ordinance 28. Beit further or
dained, That any horse, mare, colt,
mule, ass, bull, ox. goator bog run
ning tyt large, either by day or uight

cow seen trespassing upon public
or private pr qrerty in any of the
streets or public squares of the
town during the day, and any cow
running at large, or lying about tbe
streets or public square ot the town
during the night, shall likewise be
impounded ; and unless tbe animal
or animals which may be inn ound-
eil as herein provided are redeemed
by the owner or owners of the same
within ten days bv the payment of
81 for each horse, mare, colt, ass
and bull, and 56 cents for each ox
aud cow, aud 25 cents for each goat
and hog, aud all expenses attend
ing the lei dmg and keeping the
same, the said animals so impound
ed shall be sold by the Marshal af
ter tour days’ notice posted in a
prominent place at the PostotUce,
and the proceeds of the sales so
made, alter deducting all penalties
aud expenat-s, shall be paid over to
the owners.
Ordinance 29. Be it further or

tempting to bite, worrying or
threatening auy persou, horse or

unless the owuer of said dog shall
elect to pay a tine of five dollars.
Ordinance 30. Be it further or-
daiued, That any person or persons
engaged iu Knowing balls, stones,
brick bats or flying kites, or shoot
ing fireworks of auy kind or using
jack straddles on tbe public streets
or square, shall be flued not less
thau one dollar, or be imprisoned
not exceed ng 30 days.
Ordinance 31. Be it further or
daiued, That on aud after this date

Street, toward the north, a distauce
of 228 feet, from its entrance into
the Public Squate, aud on Pearle
Street, towards the west, to the cor
ner ot the street known as Mclver
Street, which runs at right angels

POLICE AND OTHER REGULA

Ordinance 32. Be it further or
dained, That it shall be tbe duly of
the Marshal to arrest all persons
violating any of the Towo Oidi
nances or Regulations, aud to sum
mon any person or persons to their
aid when necessary.
Ordinance 33. Be it further or
dained. That any person or persons
who shall refuse or neglect to obey
the sumous of a Marshal, shall bs
punisbed by a flue of uot loes than
five dolais, or by imprisonment uot
exceeding 30 days.
Ordinance 34. Be it further or
dained, That any person or persons
who shall resist, strike, or:threaten
a Marshal when in tbe discharge
of his duty, shall be punished by a
fine of not less than five dollars, or

days.
Ordinance 35. Be it further or

Ordinance 40. Be it further or

to be driven, any horse, mule, or
horses or mules through the
streets for the purpose of watering
said horse, mule, or drove of horses
or mnles, or for any other purpose,
later that 9 o’clock A. M., without
halter or being led, shall be punish
ed by a fine of not less than 81, or
by imprisonment not exceeding 30
days This Ordinance does not ap
ply to drovers or other persons en
tering or leaving the town with
stock.
